Non-Pro forums

While surfing through new posts.. I was just wondering if anyone else (non-Pro) finds it frustrating when someone posts a question in the Pro Only forum, and you know the answer or know a way to help.. but can't post an answer to assist..

Kind of. There was one I thought I could help with but, I haven't done the leap to pro yet. It's a paid privilege of doing the up-grade.

Once I have done enough work with GS and have a completed app under my belt with GS I plan doing the upgrade myself. Until then the paid users have their corner and we others pretty much have the run of the place.

I would like to see more add-ons for the paid section of GS though. Maybe it will happen with the next update.

    @JN38

Actually, the pro users have an ENTIRE forums to themselves! (There's a pro version of Anoince your game!, a pro version of...etc.- there's a pro counterpart to all the forum parts you see here)

The reason why you can't see them is because only the pro working with gamesalad section is visible to basic users.

Yes, agreed, although I'm now 'Pro', a few weeks back I'd see plenty posts where I could have offered help but was unable to because the poster had decided the question was 'Pro'.

To be honest I think having 'Pro' only forums is somewhat counterproductive (and maybe even damaging in the long run) . . . and it's a puzzle as to why someone would limit the number of people able to offer a solution to a problem by posting it in the 'Pro' section ?

I've done the direct message thing. I think it just bugs me that some users who are new to GS and decide to go straight to Pro, (more power to 'em.. I wish I could!!) but then use the Pro forums to ask lighter difficulty questions that many others could quickly help with.

I don't think a Pro Only forum is dumb.. but I just think that forum users should do better at placing their posts.. When I have a question about Pro features.. then in the Pro forums.. If I have a question like how do I Animate.. I might want to ask the masses.. or the Mod's could relocate the thread..

    S3.. Ya had me till...
... and rather than doing a quick search, ask the same question that has been asked 1,000 times. Since they can't immediately post in the Pro section, this allows the Pro section to remain much cleaner, direct and clear.
The Pro and normal posts show up in the normal Recent/Unanswered categorization lists, so I don't really see the advantage you are creating other than 1 category cannot be used by the Non-Pro users.

I'm not trying to bicker or anything, sometimes I browse the forums to either Learn or Help.. and often I have seen, as you put it, "same question that has been asked 1,000 times" in the Pro forum.. but I cannot help nor point them in the direction they need to go..

It boils down to this. The Pros wanted it. The non pros are complaining about it.
It really should not concern those whom do not have a pro account. If it is something you want access to, get a pro account. There is potentially more information that is shared there that is beyond basics, but plenty of folks (including pros) address and help out on the regular forums. Beyond what SaladStraightShooter pointed out, there are things that we don't want disclosed to the general user forum purely as a security/confidence measure. People do steal ideas, art, concepts, video, unique gameplay ideas etc.. The pro section serves as an area where we can also share these original ideas and bounce them off one another. There is less of a factor of theft or wrong doing when your pro account status and creditability are on the line.

Well.. I guess I won't continue with this thread.. as it seems that my point is being misunderstood. it's not a jealousy thing.. it's not a stealing secrets thing.. (while valid points, it's not the one I'm making) it's the Working With GS Pro category which IS visible to us Non Pros (insanely jealous spies) who are just looking to help someone out in a thread which we can Read but not Respond to.

I plan on upgrading soon, so I am not making this about Pro vs Non Pro, it just bugs me to see a thread with a question I might be able to help with, but can't..

I guess the solution would be to alleviate your torment of seeing the working pro forums thread would be to make it invisible to the non pros. Out of sight out of mind. >:)

I'm not complaining. I like the fact that there is a place where a forum is cleaner and not cluttered with one-offs.

I completely agree with the reasoning behind creating a pro-only area. When I finally get proficient enough with GS and move to pro, I would want the same non-cluttered (not as cluttered) forums.

I never thought splitting the forum was a good idea, but the majority did, so here we are!

You're not missing much though. My last post there was requesting custom font integration. That's as exciting as it's got for me ;)
