What does "resolution independence" mean and do?

What does the resolution independence mean? Does it mean I can have an iphone 5 app and it will still fit on the iphone 4?

Resolution Independence is for retina sized graphics. This option is only for iOS games since they are the only platform to support high rez graphics right now.

You basically create all of your graphics twice the required size. So lets say you are making a background for an iPad app, which normally would be 1024 x 768, If you check R.I. you would then need to make the image 2048 x 1536 and GameSalad will handle the rest. For high rez devices, it will use the larger image, and for devices that do not support the high rez graphics, GameSalad makes a copy at the regular 1024 x 768 size and uses that.

And the same goes for actors as well. If you have a character that you know you want to be 128 x 64 onscreen, then you would need to make the graphic at 256 x 128. And when you drag these high rez images onscreen with R.I. checked, they will be re-sized to fit within your project without you having to adjust anything except it's position.

It has nothing to do with the screen differences between iPhone 4 and iPhone 5.
