How many levels is considered a decent amount? I see games with 10 to 100 levels. Usually games with less graphical differences (but more game play challenges) I find have a lot of levels.

For the game I'm working on I only planned on 5, they are graphically large (kind of like the defender demo only more so) and If I build more, the graphics I need to add will increase the game size extensively. Any thoughts on those who play and create?

It really depends on the kind of game.

My still to be completed shooter has 10 levels in it. The game, in total, takes just over 30 minutes to complete from start to finish.

There's replay value in that players can try and beat their score.

I've tried to include something new in each level. Be it a new type of enemy, or a new game mechanic. I feel that it keeps the game 'fresh'.

If your levels are short, then 100 of them is fine. But keep it fresh if you can. 100 levels of the same game mechanic can actually bore players.

But hey, that's just me ;)

Yes that's what I doing as well - some variation in each level to keep it fresh.

BTW- whens the new season of IT crowd coming out? I see Ashes to Ashes is back (love that show) - you brits get the best shows.
