My first problem (following along in the Windows Tutorial)

Hi all,

I've just gotten going with GameSalad and I've already encountered my first problem. I'm using the Windows version and am working on the first game tutorial in the Windows Manual. It seems the manual is a little bit out of date (there are some interface differences with the version I'm using and the manual), so that might be my holdup, but I'm not sure. The game is the basic shoot em up from the cookbook (http://cookbook.gamesalad.com/tutorials/7/parts/43).

I've gotten to the point where I've added my first actor to the stage, and the manual instructs me to open the images tab in the library, and drag the PNG file titled "Ship" over the white box (my actor). Best as I can tell, there is not "images" tab, but there is a media one, so I clicked that and found a file called "Ship" (though I can't tell what's what for media files... in other words, nothing is denoted as being an image, let alone what kind of image). I dragged this over the box, but nothing happens. Just for kicks, I hit the play button to test the game, and sure enough, the white box is a ship! But when I clicked back to the editor, it was a white box again.

Anyone know what's wrong here? Did I break something already?

Thanks in advance for any help :)

The cookbooks are a bit out of date. The Media tab will hold all of your images, sounds, etc. Images are denoted by a small icon of their full-size as well as dimensions under the 'info' column.

I've attached an image of what I see in my GameSalad Creator on Windows for the Basic Shoot Em up tutorial.

Hmm... it looks like I'm having a problem with seeing the images. Here's what I see:

When I extracted the files i just left them where they were and launched right in to the GameSalad project. I don't think it's having a problem finding the path to the images, because like I said, it's there when I run the game. Just not when I'm building it.

    Any thoughts?

No thoughts on what's going on. If you drag in a new image, does it correctly display the thumbnail and dimensions info?

It displays the dimensions, but not the thumbnail. The only time I get to see the image is when I play the game. Here's what that looks like:

Well, it seems I can solve the problem by deleting the original file from the media folder and re-importing it. Weird that it happened though. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the next one :)

Hi, I was experiencing this too - I think actually it's just the name of the folder when you extract the files from the download. It has spaces in it that convert to '%20' and Windows struggles with the path. So rename the folder (I went with 'shoot') and then reload it and everything seems to load in then.
