Sound Bug

I don't understand. I've sent out bug report after report to Gamesalad but no reply or changes. I have an app that uses a lot of sound and when the sound is paused the RAM keeps piling up with out chaching. I don't know what to do at this point. My app takes too long to load by itself and then it crashes once you start tapping buttons to play sound. Even if the sound is not playing the RAM is still being used.... PLEASE HELLP :(

It's been 3 MONTHS that I've been waiting for either a response from the team or a fix, or the new engine. But nothing. My app was supposed to have been on the app store by December!!! 3 months later, my app is done, the engine causes problems. What is the team up to??? I've sent so many tech support e-mails and all they did is refer me to the bug report page. I sent many bug reports and none of them was either fixed or mentioned or anything. I think it's better for them to fix old bugs first rather than moving on to new updates. Does anyone agree on this?? This is ridiculous, I wanted to buy PRO membership, but I think i'd rather move on to a new engine!

    Hi there!

Don't know much about your particular problem, but why don't you just publish the game anyway? If it is a bug there may be a difference in performance between the Gamesalad creator and a device.

Or perhaps there is another way to work around your issue. Is it music or sound effects? If it is sound effects, you probably shouldn't be pausing it as it is not designed for that. And if music, perhaps you could just restart the music if pausing is the problem? Many really good apps do this all the time if you listen closely, Plants Vs. Zombies for one.

    Cheers

Although I think ('hope' more than 'know') that the new engine should resolve a lot of these problems I agree that it would be better to see GS repairing these numerous annoying (and sometimes game development halting) issues rather than work on yet more new features like universal binaries and Twitter functionality and . . . cough cough . . IceCap games, not that there is anything wrong with all that stuff in itself, I'd just rather someone fix the loose steering wheel and broken headlights before they dazzle us with another set of chrome wheels (but I still want the chrome wheels :) )

But as the new engine approaches (and assuming these issues will be largely addressed with the new engine) that argument loses a little ground as they would be repairing something they are about to jettison.

To be honest I have no clue about how to code a SDK, how to run a software business, nor anything about the internal politics of GameSalad or what kinds of pressure they are under so most of what I say is borne out of frustration more than knowledge.

And yes, the bug reporting system doesn't seem like a particularly good use of anyone's time, your reports go in, you hear nothing, you send them in again (perhaps the first post got lost?), you still hear nothing . . . wait a while . . . the bug turns up in the next update (and the next, and the next, and the next) . . send in your bug reports again . . you hear nothing . .

    It's worth quoting Einstein here:

Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I say drop to your knees and pray to the Lua-Drop gods, it's your only hope. 8-X
