How do you make a game smaller..... 203.2 MB

Hello GameSalad,

I have developed an app and it is "203.2 MB" I know that is way way way to big.
But I do not know how to make it smaller. (:

The problem is I have Hi-Res pictures in the app. But I have no idea what to do to make them or the app smaller.

If you can tell me a way to fix this, email me at info(at)bigthinkinapps.com or just leave a reply.
If you need to look at it please ask and I can sent it via dropbox... (:

Thanks so Much
Conner

Unless you are shooting for a certain size for certain reasons, 203mb is not that big, considering. Depends on how extravagant your game is. I have many games on my phone that are more than quadruple that size.

Yeha, SlickZero is right. It completely depends on what kind of game it is. It could be that the game should be 200 MB! :p

200mb is no big deal, sure if you can reduce unnecessary file size then go for, but I wouldn't compromise your game to fit it into some arbitrary file size.

I think that if I saw a game is 200mb I would expect it to have a lot of game play or features so it doesn't matter too much.

Yes you are right but the upload time is more then 6 hours.

Yeah, I think the others are right. A large file size, to an extent, is only showing good about your app (i.e more content).

Well it is an app that has 45 wallpapers in it. So it does not that have much content. And the upload time is an issue.

6 hours for 200mb ! What are you using for your internet connection, a ouija board ?

I have bought dozens of apps much bigger than 200mb, some over 1Gb, I can't imagine a couple of extra minutes downloading is going to discourage potential customers.

I think he is talking about the uploading of the game in gamesalad not downloading the actual thing, which i think he is right cause it took me 30 min to upload a 80mb game while my network connection is 100mbps!

@BIG_THINKIN_APPS Well, then sleep while it uploads!

Png optimizer softwares are not going to work well. I tired all of them. For non transparent image you can use jpeg image and reduce its quality. I know when in included into gamesalad its converted into png but that way you can surly get batter result. If you have photoshop then goto save for web> jpeg> and adjust quality.
