Accelerometer Help

So I have an Apple License and can test me games on my iPhone 5... No problem. I'm at work right now putting the final touches on my game idea for this unicorn apocypse stuff 
and it just hit me. I'm wanting to use the accelerometer n I never have... But had a few questions about it.
Once I get it up and running... Regardless of resolution and stuff cause I no it's gotta be for android... Will the accelerometer handle about the same if I was playing the game on an android ? Also. Do I have to add rules to link the accelerometer to left and right keys or up and down to match how I would move my device or does it do it automatically? Thanks!
