How do I use a sin curve to make rising and falling smoother?

Hi guys,
I'm pretty new to gamesalad and am making a jetpack joyride style game. Here's an example of what I have so far: http://rocketmangame.blogspot.ie/2013/02/proof-of-concept-video-2.html
The problem is trying to implement a sin curve to make him more realistically rise and fall when the screen is touched and released.
Currently, I have it very linearly set up using acceleration.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

That does look awesome, alas the game is for a masters project, and I don't think they would take too kindly to buying a template!
Thanks,
