Good idea to remove old app and submit brand new one to iTunes app store?

Hi... I have a free app that's over a year old and it has some "issues"... it isn't a Universal Binary and the iAd feature isn't working in it (no clear reason, tired of guessing why)...

Is there any real downside to simply removing the app from the AppStore, making a new app (new app ID, etc)... ?

I can't think of any real reason why this wouldn't hurt... can any of you?

Thanks!

    Hey,

you won't be able to use the same name for the game again, so you need something different at least. But can't think of any reason that could hurt. Why not so. But excited to hear more thoughts on this.

    Cheers

In my humble opinion kinda pointless as a method to get on top. With the new App Store layout all that is moot. The only good way is to either be a apple recommend or a top app. It used to be current releases were a selection that is not a viable option in the new layout. Best is to update it for two reasons. 1. You don't lose the name and 2. You can see how many still use the app based on the update count.

I'm not really concerned about losing the name (doing an update now to change the name to something lousy.. ha!)... And I'm not doing this to get to the top of any market listing... I just want iAd working...

I've published almost 20 apps, about 10 with iAd... And for some reason this one app just won't display/serve them.. I have apps that are MUCH less popular and I still get in some revenue...

Publishing from scratch would (hopefully!) get me around this weird roadblock...

    Sooo.. quick update: it worked!

I had an app that was configured for iAd (worked in testing) but the iAds just never showed up.. No idea why. It was a free app and no matter how many times I tried to "fix" or update it the ads just never showed.

So I renamed it to something lousy with an update (took a week)... and then REMOVED it from the App store.

Then I submitted a NEW app (identical GS project with a new provisioning ID) and submitted it under the original name... And... a week later... it was approved AND I have working ads!
