i am making a game and I was wondering if good background music including sound effects may make the game more interesting and fun.

Yes, but it also depends on the game. For example, you don't want to have background music in chess.

Music should fit the atmosphere of the game, for instance, i've gone with 5 different tracks for my latest game and also lots of sound effects .. When used correctly, it really impacts on the game!

Just put in some birds making annoying squaking sounds and you will have a world wide hit :)

Music is good when used right like in one of my favorite games.... Contre jour . It really makes the game feel like another world.

Music is just as important as any other asset in your game. It sets the mood/feeling, and holds the emotions the developer intended you to have through certain areas of gameplay. It's a subliminal thing that you don't even really notice up front, but without it, the game would noticeably not have the same feel or effect to it.

Watch a movie or a TV show and listen for the sounds and background music it's there you just don't notice it. Once you start becoming aware of the things you will notice the impact they have.
