Do you find your GS games crash on some devices

My new game QuizConnect crashes on some devices it seems to be more on iPod but some friends say it crashes on iPhone 4 too.
My last game had the same problem does anyone else experience this or know off why this might happen?
It runs fine on my iPad 2, iPad 3 & 4s.

Without knowing all the details, your devices are better than your friends. Your friend could have some stuff already open consuming RAM and tehn with your game, too
ps it over causing it to crash

@beefy_clyro My game was released yesterday and not just one friend said it crashes but several people. Most of them on iPods and some on iPhone 4.
But its not all, they are all high iOS 5.1-6.2.

I think its more likely to do with hardware, as you've said, you've tested on ipad 2,3 and iPhone4s ... all better than the 4 and below that your friend maybe testing on. It's likely to be crashing due to RAM

I think your right, but how can they play other games like temple run, subway surf ect.
    won't they use more RAM?

I have noticed that my game is now crashing on 3GS. It has nothing to do with size in my case, because the latest versions of my game is smaller than previous versions.

I suspect universal builds might be the problem since I tested a bunch of older builds and none of the universal build versions worked. However, builds created before universal builds was an option runs perfectly.

    Anyone else notice anything similar?

    @viking
I'm not using UB in my game so thats not the problem

I dont think you should bother with older devices. 3gs is like 4 years old so by now many people would have hopefully upgraded. But thats my opinion. If temple run 2 does not lag on the 3gs then it might be a universal build issue, or some crazy optimization of the game. My first app worked fine on the 3gs.

My app wont even run on my galaxy tab on android, support said it might be something to do with the images. But its a pain bought the google licence and cant even use it until I sort the problem out and I don't know where to begin.

@gsrockz123 The thing is though a lot of young teenagers have iPods (old ones) like all my nieces and nephews have them and my game crashes can't even get in the game.
And other games like temple run ect run fine.
My app seems to be fine on newer devices, (except android).

Have you or your friends experienced these crashes with maybe a week cellular or wifi connection? I say this cause I've noticed my game now just gives up when I have a weak signal. My iphone 4S has had some difficulty staying connected to any wifi lately but I suspect the new GS forced ad introduced in the new publishing update is contributing to the crashes. Since these ads are currently the only element in my game that would need some form of internet connection, it is the only reason it would shut the game down. When I'm re-connected to my wifi or a good 3G signal, all works fine and runs like a dream!

That sounds interesting I will look into that and let you know

I had a look to see if the reason for crashing was the internet connection but the full version of the game has no adds, only I.A.P which use the internet.
The game still crashes on there device even with wi-fi turned off.
The devices are old but other games work fine.
Why would the game run fine on most devices but crash on these.

    RAM

Optimise your game or take stuff out that contain things like big images.

Make a copy of your project, strip out some 'eye candy' and use the viewer to keep testing. See at what point makes the game stable and stops crashing.

If you're having the same problem as me then you will need to have wi-fi turned on or have a good 3G connection. You say the game still crashes when wi-fi is turned off which means your idevice is now looking for a cellular connection. If you can't get 3G where you are and your signal is weak then your game will most certainly crash probably for the same reason as me. I just tried again at work - when I'm connected to my wi-fi it works perfectly. When I turn it off it crashes every time.

You say you have I.A.P. so it is still probably trying to perform the same task as the GS forced add.

The above isn't a solution, just to help determin what the problem is. If it does turn out to be the ineternet connection then this has got to be some sort of bug caused by the recent GS publishing update. Although if it's just me and you having this problem then it must be something we are doing wrong.

I'll have a look over lunch to see if anyone else is discussing this issue anywhere on the forums...

Just had to look... it's bugging me now.

You posted on here a short while ago regarding I.A.P. You said yours worked fine but I wonder if these issues could be related...

It could be related, I'm going to do some testing today on my nephews iPod.
I will try to Optimise my game like beefy_clyro said.

Its really bugging me to, It doesn't look good when your game doesn't even work :-?

Ok after doing some further testing today I found a couple of other game salad games that I tested had problems on 4th generation iPod.

For example on my tutorial screen I have a display txt attribute and on my iPhone & iPad it displays fine. On the iPod there is a black bar across the bottom with no txt.

On other games like "I am hero" the game crashed a couple of times but a least it want into the main game which it doesn't on my game.

There was another game I downloaded candy something and that was really laggy.
Any game that wasn't made with GS seems to run fine.

The 4th gen iPod is the most likely device to crash off all Apple devices. This is because they are retina devices, but without the needed memory support. They have the ram of a 3GS, but use double the memory.

    LiquidGameworks Thanks for the info.

Yup I've said it all along ... RAM!!!!!!!!!

Most people do not design for the 3gs anymore, just target 4 and upwards

    Hi guys,@beefy_clyro
Just bought my partner a iPhone 4, and again my game runs slow also there is a problem with the tutorial screen which happens on iPods to.
On my tutorial screen I have an actor which displays the instructions. "display txt"
and I have 3 different instructions.
There is an attribute which says when tutorial number =1 display first instructions
number =2 display second instructions and same for the third.
What is happening is a black bar where the txt should be is being displayed, this doesn't happen to my 4s or higher and iPad 2 but on some iPhone 4 and lower this happens any ideas?
    -Darren.
