GameSalad + GameSpot Contest.... Spec work?

Random thought I had....

Considering Gamespot / Samsung would essentially be using and releasing the winning game as marketing material... and only the winner receives $25,000.... Would this not be considered spec work disguised as a contest? Which is banned on these forums. =)

Essentially you're saying "everyone do this job and we'll pay the winner (one person) for doing it."

This topic is only half-serious. Don't go crazy people...

    It's a double standard I say. At least the potential pay is more than the normal $20 most cheapskates offer when they try those kinda of threads.

    @DepressedPanda
    Personally, I think this contest was **AWESOME** :D, and that GS should definitely do more of these.

    Not only did the large-scale prize make this contest awesome, but also the high-profile sponsor and their ad campaign (Ads during the Oscars...for potentially your game :D )

    Just my thoughts,
    Chakku :)

    Funny, the same thought crossed my mind when it was announced. :D
    Unlike most spec work scenarios, this has many more positive things going for it.

    @Chakku and @RP, yeah. I totally agree. The contest will do more good than harm. Hopefully it drummed up some new blood in the GameSalad developer community which can only mean better things for all of us.

    I was just thinking out loud mostly. :)
