Warning!! I've noticed other devs from touch arcade forum getting promo codes so they can leave bad 1 star reviews in other devs apps. I saw one that was obvious and I'm sure there are more so their apps look better. Not just on my apps. I won't say who but be aware

Since you wont say who do you think it is someone from GS?

    That would not be cool

Plus that doesnt make you look better at all

It just makes one game look a tiny bit worse than 150,000 other games.....
    Hardly an advantage

Whoever is doing that is really lame and kind of stupid at the same time

    Edit
If they are from here just put em on blast, they deserve it

I'm regularly active on TA, and if this is going on, I'd think someone would notice. What happens almost all the time is shilling, but leaving negative reviews on other apps makes no sense. It's even more difficult considering you'd need to get a substantial number of promo codes for the app you're trying to bring down.

    not meaning anything rude...

how do you know they did it on purpose?

maybe honestly from their point of view it is only worth 1 star?

or maybe they are being pure reviewer scum

Not GS devs. I would expect us to at least tell each other what needed work as we have done here on the forum. At least if we are told here it helps before we submit. Honesty hurts sometimes but keep in mind it's an opinion

I actually got good reviews from everyone on TouchArcade forum. The lowest i got was a 4star and I think that was someone from here because when i checked out their other games it had a list of GS games.

Dont worry im not mad 4 stars is still okay with me :)

yes I have had this happened to me....absolutely slaughtered by these dudes....one guy got into a argument about physics...he had no idea what he was talking about.....I will not give out this way...
  • ChaserChaser Member Posts: 1,453
I've seen the physics comments on a few. Considering physics is GS's good point I think they are jealous of it

I've gotten a couple really good reviews from two developers I met at Touch Arcade. Interestingly, the lowest rating I've gotten that included a review (3 star) came from a GS member, but that's okay. Any rating that includes a review is very good in my opinion. If someone is way off base, then people will know it.

I think for the most part T.A members are pretty good about giving fair reviews but I'm sure there are lurkers that will take a code and delete it and give 1 star, although thank goodness they're getting rid of that rating system :)
  • ChaserChaser Member Posts: 1,453
I can give 40 codes over there and get 1 review. Not worth my efforts ecspecially when 35 of the codes get taken and nobody tells anybody they took a code until they are gone.

Why give out free promos to "nobody"?

I'm new here, but it seems like those are for legitimate reviewers and as such, they should be selected carefully to ensure their unbiased opinion.

That's how review systems work in other fields of endeavor...

That siad, I am glad Apple is divesting the delete process of the nastygram. I've deleted several hundred, but only once dinged the thing. A mean, you're deleting it because you don't like it enough to keep it isn't that about it?

A good point, but only a few members here have the standing to do such. Tshirtbooth has earned enough respect to have a review list, and a number of others could do such if they choose too, but most of us with one or maybe two games, and without the reputation of the more active members just have to trust chance.

Honestly, I don't know very many people with iPhones, two in my office and a few friends, but I don't like asking them the review my stuff... I'm sure they would, but it's sort of imposing.

While it can't be eliminated, we can at least offset it.

I suggest we all sign up to Promo Dispenser.

It requires people to sign up to the site, and it will spit out one code for them. When the codes are all distributed, it will show up as "all gone." No more listing a bunch of codes and everyone scrambling to find a free one to use.

That sound pretty good, but is there any accountability for reviews there?
  • BeyondtheTechBeyondtheTech Member Posts: 809
No, that's why I said it won't eliminate it, but if you have to make a few extra efforts to sign up and activate an account, it would probably be for people who are more serious about getting your game, than people trolling the forums to grab a free code.

UPDATE: I just signed up with a second e-mail address as a non-developer (you can redeem codes as a developer, weird). You can only grab one code per day. You can only create one account from one IP address, also, to prevent spamming the server and grabbing all the codes.

    @BTT

    I have gotten a lot of good reviews from Hunnenkoenig's site ( http://iphoneapp-promocodes.com )
Even the bad reviews were honest and helpful
But, like anywhere i have gotten a few odd ones.

I had one person actually go out of his way to buy my game after his promo code was used just to leave a one star to say he got a used promo code. Not even my fault lol!

Just goes to show its all the same everywhere.

Personally i just do whatever to dump them off as quick as possible

My latest game has gotten 16 reviews almost all from TA since i didnt post any here.
(Sorry guys they just dont get used up all the time)
probably only a few actually purchased it and reviewed.

    I have gotten 16 reviews 9 were 5star.
Sure there were 3 1stars but thats fine.
Over all i think it was worth dumping them off on TA

Tshirt do you put them in the forum or do they have a submission for codes
  • JamesZeppelinJamesZeppelin Member Posts: 1,927
one could go there and look...

    :P
  • ChaserChaser Member Posts: 1,453
Thanks James but I'm there regularly and just not the forums. I'll check it out

Yeah it angers me because i gave away 30 promo codes and i got one 5 star and 3 one star ratings shortly after.

PS. I gave away my codes on toucharcade.com

I use ipodtouchfans.com its a good site but for jailbreakers and coders :/

Strange, look at the last post on this topic, it says iWin :P

this is in general not to anyone really

Has anyone considered that the 1 stars may actually be genuine?

Not everyone is nice just because you are fellow Dev...

Ive never left a one star but I have gotten some and i am pretty sure they were the real deal lol
  • firemaplegamesfiremaplegames Member Posts: 3,211
Instead of just dumping them in a post on the toucharcade forum, have them send you a PM. That way you can interact with the people directly.

Most of the people on Touch Arcade are game players, not developers - so you will get some pretty honest feedback.
