Buying a template off of gamesald.

If i were to buy a template off of gamesalad, and to adjust the game around, would i be able to sell it on the app store or will there be legal problems.

Thanks

You should change it so it doesn't look exactly like the template... but once you buy a template, it's yours to do what you wish.

On occasion it'll include art (watermarked or not) that you may or may not be able to use. The seller will usually specify this.

As for a more personal answer.... Don't be that guy who buys a template and immediately releases it hoping to get rich... you won't. Buy the template for the coding help or general game idea and make the game YOURS. Add spice to it, give the consumer a reason to buy it.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal to sell the template. You can use the code all you want and the artwork loosely. It's illegal to sell the game directly because you don't the rights. Instead you are buying a license to the template. My own thoughts :)

It's definitely not illegal. There's no specific law in any state that covers GameSalad templates.

Also, I'd have to check the GS TOS but you may not even own the code, they do. There's much more code in a GameSalad made App than just your code.

    Illegal: No. Douche Move: Absolutely.

@DepressedPanda Read the Terms and Conditions. Selling it is prohibited.

1.2 Subject to the terms and conditions of these Terms, GameSalad and its Providers, as applicable, hereby grant to you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, worldwide license to: use any Asset for which you pay a license fee for the sole purpose of incorporating such Asset into video game(s) (each, an "Incorporated Asset"); (ii) modify any Asset for which you pay a license fee but only to the extent necessary to create an Incorporated Asset and without substantially altering the asset; (iii) reproduce, distribute, post, promote, license, sell, publicly perform, publicly display, digitally perform, or transmit for promotional and commercial purposes the Incorporated Asset; and (iv) use the name and likeness of any individuals represented in the Asset as part of the Incorporated Asset. Again, it's not illegal. Learn the difference between illegal and against terms of service. Illegal means you'll be arrested on the spot if a police offer was to witness you doing it.

This is going nowhere nor is this important considering the original posters question was answered. I'm bowing out. If that means you "win". So be it.

Dozens and dozens of games have been built off of GameSalad templates, and are for sale on the App Store. The only ones that run into problems are the ones that shovel it out the door, incomplete, and using the art that was marked by the developer as "Not Useable".

You definitely need to change the art, and complete the unfinished game in your own style. If you buy it and publish it as is, you will most certainly have problems.
