How did you begin?

I figured that for a lot of people that are new to the software, Gamesalad can be a little daunting (or a lot in my case!). So I've made this thread so that people can post how they began, what steps they took, and ultimately how they made their first game.

Personally I think it could be very helpful to motivate and inspire newcomers, as well as offering a fascinating insight into the beginnings of the professionals that thrive with this software!

I started with my best friend at the age of 16 (3 years ago) during the summer holidays. We tried to make a simple "Stack the blocks" style game, but this proved waaay to complicated, and we could fathom out how to get the camera to move. He got angry and bored quickly, and as such soon it was just me on my own. Sadly, He took his iMac with him, and I didn't have one, leaving me up the creek without a canoe. Luckily at that point my mum bought one, so I promptly picked up where I left off, learning the ins and outs of the software. I shifted my focus to make a game combining as many elements of T-Shirt Booths tutorials and after weeks of work, my first creation, Marble Madness was born. I spent hours watching the videos on YouTube and sifting through all of the information available in the cookbook. I drew all the graphics myself on my iPad, and used free royalty free music that I found online. From then on its snowballed, and I've loved every minute with the software since!

If I've got any advice to how to newcomers, it's to be persistent, and never give up. Don't start by making a game that you really want to make, save that for when you're really good at the stuff, and focus first on saying; "What am I capable of making" rather that "What can I make with Gamesalad".
