Why did you close my discussion for asking a question 'uptimistik' You say if you want to make games for profit then you have to pay, I understand that. But I thought the whole point of Gamesalad is to enable people who are not professional game designers to have a go at it. I am just a newbie to this and just want to be able to at least test my game out before I commit to paying out money. Of course I understand that I should pay before i publish, but shouldn't we be able to test the games first?

uptimistik said that it's possible to test the android viewer without using the Pro version, can anyone confirm this as I have not been able to get it to work.

    What he meant by "free" is that you can test android games on their platform without an Android developer licensee. To even get the iOS viewer on a device you need to be an Apple Developer, which has it's $99 fee.

    Other than the development licenses, you WILL need a Pro account to generate the .apk for androids, but you can publish to iOS as a free member.

    Sous Chefs have to close threads that are about circumventing the system. Even though you are new to this and don't know what's right or what's wrong, the thread has to be closed so there is no more discussion or replies about getting around the process. Not your fault, you didn't do anything wrong since this is your first time asking.

    These videos may help you get what you need to test on Android, but again, to publish to Android, it takes GameSalad Pro. To publish to iOS is free with GameSalad, but you have to have a developers license with Apple to install programs to your iPhone, which is required to make ad hocs, or to install the GameSalad Viewer, and the Viewer is for testing your game on the device.

    All I want to do at this stage is test my game on the device, it seems to me that I can't use the IOS viewer without paying Apple and I can't use the Android viewer without buying the pro version of Gamesalad. I have followed the instructions in the video and I don't think it is possible to use the viewer without the Pro version :-(

    Actually no you can use the android viewer as a free user. you just cannot publish an apk without pro.

    What you where asking was circumventing Apple Policies and TOS which by association circumvents GameSalads policies and TOS. We make a living/small chump change off apple services so were not cool with breaking their rules.

    I can understand where it may have been misunderstood, but I thought I was clear when I stated 'Test' not publish. I was/am not looking for some kind of hack to get away with using without paying, I simply just want to test out the game on my mobile device and want to know if it's possible WHITHIN the rules. Some people are saying you can use android viewer without the Pro version and others are saying you can't. I don't want to waste my time trying to get it to work if its not possible, and when I say possible I mean do Gamesalad allow it or NOT.
    If they dont allow it then i have to decide if I should buy it or use some other software.
    Thanx

    btw I have been trying to get it to work half the day and was unable to, I think you do need the Pro version to get the viewer to work on android.

    You can use the android viewer without buying the pro definitely. So you can test your apps on an android device absolutely free.

    You will only need the pro version to publish to android.

    Your previous argument was you wanted to publish your first game and then you would have the money to buy the IOS developer licens - But that logic is abit flawed.

    For IOS device testing you minimum need:
    - GS free
    - 99$ IOS developer licens
    Then you can use the GS viewer and do adhoc testing. Furthermore you can publish to the appstore with the potential of making some cash. But with the free version of GS there will be some forced ads from Gamesalad - Remove those with the Pro Version.

    For Android testing you minimum need:
    - GS free
    Just open the browser on your android device and click download viewer
    Remember to enable "non.store" apps on device in your settings before downloading
    But if you want to publish to any android store you need to pay:
    Gamesalad PRO = 299$
    Google.Play = 25$
    Amazon = 99$
    Nook = i think its 99$

    Unfortunately the world doesn't work on "I just wanna" making games cost money period. As has been said anyone is free to use the GS software but Apple requires encryption keys to install on devices and for that you need to register as a developer and pay the processing fee. Although, you may be a hobbyist Apple and Gamesalad are I business and people are in business to make money and pay their workers. This constant complaining about how things cost money is getting old. You have to pay for services as companies spend money to provide those services and need to recoup that money. GameSalad and Apple are not charities they are companies with investors.

    To truelly test test you must "publish" and adhoc version of your game. So eventually you will need an apple license and or GS pro. Publishing is a process through GameSalad where your get an actual version of the app wether its for test or further publishing to a store.

    well thanx for the help, I guess. oh and Wingmanapps, you can read my previous post, I did not say I want to publish, I stated I wanted to test the game in the viewer. Getting bashed for just asking a question.
    well it looks like the android viewer for the free version of GS is broke then. I asked a friend who has published games on GS and he said he had problems with it when he used it ages ago but thought they would of fixed it by now, I guess they haven't.
    He said some android phones show up and others don't.

    tenrdrmer says to truly test you must publish? the game should be working and fully tested before you publish a game, just so you know, I have published games before, I am just new to GS. This is also the reason I would like to test the game on my device before paying out money, I have learned from my past errors in the game industry.

    Omg man you don't get it. Publishing is just the process you do through GameSalad. You have to publish and adhoc build so you can side load it on a device and test it in a real freaking environment. The viewer does not give accurate results. It's intended to help speed testing small fixes and changes.

    Publishing does not have to be a distribution build for an App Store.

    @capitalcarnage I did. If you prefer, I can give you an official warning, but it seemed nicer to just remove the offending comment.

    I don't mind a somewhat contentious discussion but when things become disrespectful, the thread needs to be closed.
