Roadmap

My pro license is about to run out - right now - and as a pro user who was pulled in by promises of things like the LUA engine, using software that is still "Beta" after years, meanwhile costing hundreds of Dollars, I *really* would like a serious roadmap.

If, as a company, you are prepared to charge users that sort of money, then be as professional as your software is supposed to be and provide paying customers with a roadmap.

Enough is enough already. If I pay another 300 bucks for Pro, that means 600 bucks for GameSalad by now for me. It's more for others. Yes, "I can just leave", as I'm sure apologists would love to tell me - but I am already a paying customer, already using the software and I expect proper treatment as a paying customer.

Totally agree with you, im also not sure if the big improvements and features will take months or years..

Yes, it'd be nice to attach a timeframe to the roadmap, sure.
But I feel like they really don't want to make more mistakes like they have before when promising things by a certain date.
We can hope that they'll get it figured out. ;)

We will definitely be getting a proper roadmap together for you to review. I understand your concerns and will be doing my best to take care of them.

I hope that we will keep your business and can work together to bring GameSalad up to your expectations.

While I feel your pain to a certain degree I have never understood the people who bought pro because GameSalad planned to have a new engine in the future. Even when they said it was only a few months away. If that's what you where waiting for why not wait until its real. Rant over.

On a more positive note @codewizard seems to be of a completly different mindset than those of gamesalads past and not only has some ambishious yet promise plans for the engine but is very open to talking about them. And judging by his past ventures he seems like he can actually deliver as well. :)

@tenrdrmer - I don't see what's hard to understand about people purchasing Pro because of an upcoming feature? I don't think any of us thought back then that it'd take this long. ;) I almost bought Pro at that point, but ended up holding back.

I must admit I nearly bought Pro on the promise of the LUA free engine, but then I decided I'd support the continued growth of the software I use to make games instead.

A good rule to live by... Only buy something for what it is, not for what it could be. You didn't buy your iphone 4S hoping it'd turn into a 5 in a few months, did you?

Well then you sir made a wise choice. You don't buy a car cause they will have an update in a year to give it better milage do you. No you would wait to see if the promised feature comes out and buy it then.

unless of course it was a buy now and only pay 10% of the sales price when its released type deal. But game salad has not made such a promotion so why on earth would you waste a few months of a pro license when the feature your waiting on is not even here. its just lunacy.

I have to agree with @tenrdrmer - Why wait? With all of the features already available, why not purchase Pro and start raking in some cash? You could easily make that money back from just one of the features. Think of what you can do with all of them, including IAP and Android Publishing. Take advantage of the features available now.

And I *just* bought the Pro license again. Also because I have to update my current game. I hope I will see really cool stuff the coming months.

    As for the rest:

So yes, I already made and released a game, I didn't *just* buy it for the Lua-free stuff, but honestly the updates are sparse, too sparse, and after 3 years there are too many small shitty bugs that make working way harder.

I scroll down a long list of actors or re-sort them, and every time I go into an actor and back, the sorting is gone. I can't hit a letter to jump to the first actor starting with that letter.

You are charing hundreds of Dollars to people, one can hide behind "Beta" but I really think the software should be more robust and dependable in such small things.

Also, consider my post (suggestions in pro section) regarding GameSalad+.. I think that would be a good way to keep people who want to grow beyond GameSalad or have grown beyond it and can't stay (that's right: *cannot*) simply due to lack of access to their code or ability to access API.

Last but not least: my point was clear I should hope: there needs to be a clear roadmap. So we can debate motives to purchase software, but the problem is that we pro users even don't know what's coming. And when something like LUA takes 12+ months, while several tentative dates were mentioned in the past but missed, I think it's high time for a clear roadmap.
