update rejected, have they changed some rules?

We found that your app, or its metadata, includes features or content that can have an excessive influence in the listing order or ranking on the App Store, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.

Specifically, we found your app prompts users to submit a 5-star rating.

Please see the attached screenshot for more information.

It would be appropriate to remove or revise this information.

If your iTunes Connect Application State is Rejected, a new binary will be required. Make the desired metadata changes when you upload the new binary.

NOTE: Please be sure to make any metadata changes to all App Localizations by clicking the Edit button next to each localization.

My game has been updated twice without any problems, just putting ads in my game and they say can't have the earn coins for rating.
Do you think I should appeal against this after waiting for over a week.

They don't want you manipulating Users ratings by offering some kind of In - App currency. Just get rid of the 'Rate with 5 stars part."

yes I understand what they are saying but why now
This app has been like this for months and its not the first update.
I think this reviewer is having a bad day :-B

Possibly, but they don't want people asking for 5star ratings, just change it to asking for a review bad you'll be goid

Yeah the only issue they have is your prompt basically says give us 5 stars and you can have more game content. How do you not see a problem with that? It's passed before cause they missed it not cause its just now against the rules. Just change it to say rate this game for more coins.

I don't see why the "like us on Facebook and twitter and get more coins" prompt is any different than what dazza is doing? Those get allowed all the time, and I could have swore I saw a few apps that had the ratings = coins option. My personal opinion on the matter is rather neutral, but from an objective standpoint, It would seem to be fine if apple is also going to allow Facebook and twitter prompts for rewards.

Asking for a rating is not the same as implying they have to rate you as 5 stars. That's the problem. Facebook likes and twitter follows are not part of the sales and market aspects of apples side of iTunes. The rates are. And if they are BS the entire system is useless and merely ensures people will be spending money in junk and no longer trust the system. If no one trysts the system then no one buys anything. See where I'm going with this.

Facebook and twitter have nothing to do with apple providing a quality and reliable system for the customer to judge their purchases on.

I see both angles I guess...
If the app was that bad, no one will care about the coins offered and rate it down... uninstall and never think about it again.

On the other hand, If they like the game enough to care about how many coins they have, then why not show the Dev some support.

He cant control how many coins I get no matter what I rate it... for a GS game his logic would have to be damn fancy.
I only need to click the prompt.
(Im fairly certain this would be really complicated even in Objective C)

I have changed it anyway and sent a new binary, I didn't really think at the time about it saying "give five stars" I understand where there coming from but I still think they are being a bit picky with this now.
Just because it says give 5 stars and rate for coins, me as a user would rate the game as what I think it should be rated.
At least I no now for the future, like they say "you gotta learn from your mistakes". :D

Well look what I found... Captain Antartica should probably be updated then... https://dl.dropbox.com/u/23145611/photo.PNG

Such an odd thing to reject yours, but allow others like this slip past... Glad to hear you got it back up and running though!
  • mounted88mounted88 Member Posts: 1,113
@jarrenh that one is completely different than @dazza006 the one you posted just says please rate. Dazza's was rejected because it said rate with 5 stars. Don't imply to rate with a certain ammount. That's the difference that apple is ok with.

You should probably read the whole thread before coming in looking to throw fuel on the fire… That image is exactly what we told him he COULD do.

Well whoops, I did read the whole thread the first time through, but must have not caught the part about simply rating it, not stating the star count.

Sorry, didn't mean to start anything... Was just confused...

    @tenrdrmer
    @mounted88
    @JarrenH

    They have rejected it again!!

Cant believe this I changed the 5 star bit and simply said if your enjoying this game please rate it.
    Now they are saying

"3.10 We found that your app, or its metadata, includes features or content that can have an excessive influence in the listing order or ranking on the App Store, which is not in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines.

Specifically, we found your app prompts the users to leave a review providing points as a reward."

    now this is annoying
so I can't give users coins for leaving a review!
    :-O

Hit appeal and show them the app @jarrenH posted there's no reason not to allow a request for leaving a rating even if there is an incentive for leaving it. As long as your Not implying it has to be good to leave the rating. Now you've got a prick reviewer.

@tendrmer I agree, some reviewers are jerks when it comes to reviewing games (or any app for that matter). I'm not saying all of them are but a good portion are. (From my experience.)

@Dazza006 Yes I would appeal it and if they still reject it then, I guess remove the reward for rating :( . We all know bigger companies influence apple in some of the things they do, which is not far to us smaller guys. Plus like @utveckla_games said some reviewers are jerks.
  • Dazza006Dazza006 Member Posts: 248
Yeah I'm appealing against it now, probably will have to wait long now coz of the Easter holidays, and if its rejected again another week.
  • JarrenHJarrenH Member Posts: 206
Well perhaps that screenshot might be of some use then... Hopefully everything will work out. I'm sure the reviewer is just having a bad day. :)

Yeah thanks for the screen shot, I will have to wait and see what they say.

  • mounted88mounted88 Member Posts: 1,113
@Dazza006 I have read somewhere before though, when appealing they don't like it when you compare it to other games FYI, but I would still do it ;)
  • JarrenHJarrenH Member Posts: 206
It does sound kind of like getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar, and then pointing at your brother yelling, "HE TOOK A COOKIE TOO!" But sometimes it gives you that naughty feeling of success when both of you get punished.

    Appeal rejected

    This is what they said:

    3.10

Your app, or its metadata, includes features or content that can have an excessive influence in the listing order or ranking on the App Store. Specifically, your app prompts the user to leave a review in the App Store in order to receive in-game coins.

Your app will not be posted to the App Store at this time. We hope you will consider making the necessary changes to be in compliance with the App Store Review Guidelines and will resubmit your revised binary.

    Best regards,

    App Review Board
    ********************

Looks like I will have to remove this, so if anyone else has this sort of thing in there app I would remove it.
Looks like they're getting strict with this!
But still think its stupid as you can rate the app what you like.
    ;)

Not to rain on your parade, but i've just got my app approved with a 5 star unlock button which unlocks more levels if they rate it.

So it seems its still possible (luck maybe) to have this option - Hopefully i wont have to update it soon @-)

    This makes me more mad!
just kidding, yeah I think its all down to the reviewer at the end of the day :)

True - what ive done is to hide it abit.
it has to be prompted after a button touch or something. Your problem right now is that it has been flagged on your app - you might try an update and sneak it under the radar

    B-)

Yeah I think your right, I think they have flagged it now.
