why wont my actor show in game salad?

in Working with GS (Mac)
I'm using the basic platform template and have replaced all of the actor's images including animated images with my own. I made sure my images were in GIF format and that they were brought to the front. But they wont show in the edit view of the game nor the preview. does anyone know why this might be?

    Try .PNG format for images.
    That should fix it.

    changing to PNG should work, but if not make sure visible is under "graphics" is true, and that the opacity is %100.
