which one to walkthrough? if its right to ask!

i know it sounds stupid but im really beginner in this !@#$%! i dont even know if here is the right place to ask such a question! but im gonna ask anyway.
now the thing is, there's that cookbook that u can find here in the website and its actually great step by step tutorials, everything was going great but since it said that i have to download that manual i got confused cuz i realized its almost the same with the cookbook!, so should i read both of them? and if both, wich one to start with? and if one is enough, which one would be better?

one more thing, what about the points thing? when u answer the questions right it gives points i think, is that important?

The points are a gamification system that allows you to feel like you are achieving something (which you are!). They are important if they help motivate you to learn more.
