Really depends on the game I would say, if you have lets say 3 game modes maybe have 1 mode in the lite, and if you have levels to unlock, then it depends on how many levels in the over all game to determine how many should be in the lite ver.
Just put enough in the lite to hook the player, once they're hooked then it shouldn't be a problem going to the full version.
@Utveckla_Games One Ring to rule them all [1. A great app, free functionality that hooks the user and leaves some sort of cliffhanger they can't resist], One Ring to find them [2. Make it free with possibilities to unlock great stuff via IAP] , One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them [1+2].
You could include just the first part of the game, and they must upgrade to get the whole game, or you could include the whole game, but have ads to make money. You don't have to do this, but with my game, I will call it the "demo" version instead of the "lite" version; it sounds more retro!
To offer any game for free, the quality has to be insanely good. it must be addictive and it must be before the player gets a bit tired of playing.
@uptimistik I would think it would be the exact opposite, where the quality should be for the games people pay money for! :P (Not saying you're wrong, just surprised from reading this)
Think of it like this, Ferrari has a new car, they want you to buy it. You're in two minds about it, so they say, alright let's give you one of our cars for a week to test out. They then give you a broke down Nissan with a Ferrari sticker on it for a week. How tempted would you be to upgrade?
@uptimistik @Utveckla_Games I do see your point, but if the lite version is so amazing, then why should the person upgrade to the paid one? (It works for this analogy, because the rental of the car is only a week, while the customer can keep the lite app for as long as they want)
