Has anybody had their iPhone app approve recently and the splash screen still does not rotate regardless of all the scenes set to 2 orientations and the publish set to 2 orientations?

Are you telling me nobody knows this answer

I am about to update an iphone app to autorotate and can let you know the answer in a few hours.

Yep, can confirm, just updated my app on the iphone to auto rotate, I know its not necessary, but though it would be a nice feature. It all works fine but the Game Salad splash screen does NOT auto rotate!

Same here. I thought GS had changed this and just wanted to make sure it was not just on my end Is your splash screen landscape, as mine is a landscape game
  • JCFordJCFord Member Posts: 785
Yes landscape too, but it will not rotate until it gets into my part. I believe they corrected this for the iPad as my apps were rejected because of this at first, but looks like they have overlooked the iphone splash screen.

    Same here.
Luckily my game is landscape but if it weren't I would assume Apple will reject any apps with non matching splash screens.

I'm sure the chaps will fix it shortly.

We are also having the same "non-autorotate" of the GS splash screen. Using GS 0.8.5 Express the GS splash screen does NOT autorotate, despite both landscape orientation options checked in GS iPhone publishing "Advanced Mode" AND every scene within our app having both landscape left/right options checked. Result is that our scenes autorotate perfectly, but the GS splash screen does not...I thought this was fixed in 0.8.5, no?
  • JCFordJCFord Member Posts: 785
It was fixed for the ipad, but not for the iphone, I hope the GS team fix this in the next update, I am sure it just got over looked.

For iPad, does this mean that we need to tick the auto-rotate for all orientations during the publishing "Advanced Mode" but control the actual orientations within the Scene's Attributes (maybe only Portrait and and reverse-portrait)?

I recompiled Free ABC Songs with 0.8.5 but was rejected for the splash screen thing again. I only checked the two portrait orientations for all parts (scene attributes and publishing settings)

You'll have to try and let us know as I was only going to select 2 lanndscape options at publish and 2 landscape per scene. Not all 4 at publish
  • scorelessmusicscorelessmusic Member Posts: 565
I've just re-submitted. All 4 rotations at publish, but only 2 for every scene I have in the project itself. Let's see what happens.
  • JCFordJCFord Member Posts: 785
You only need to select the splash screen orientation that matches your app auto rotation. i.e. If your app is landscape set the auto rotation for the app and splash screen to landscape left and right only and if your app if portrait then set the app auto rotation and splash screen to portrait up and down only!

    Hope that helps

@JCFord the funny thing is that was what I did before, and even with 0.8.5, it was soundly rejected for that splash screen reason.

I was using the 2 portrait rotations, set in both the publishing page as well as each individual scene.

FYI just uploaded an iPhone game (our first!).

Gave up on enabling "autorotate" on any screens since the GS splash screen won't autorotate, so we'll see if our app is approved this way. I'll keep this thread posted on the results...
  • JCFordJCFord Member Posts: 785
@ rmayii if its an iphone game you do not need to have auto rotate so your app will be fine, only iPad app MUST have the auto rotate feature.
  • rmayiirmayii Member Posts: 9
....iPhone game just approved - first time through the approval process no less! No autorotate required since this is an iPhone only game. Thanks for your help JCFord!

Mine was rejected again. :( *sigh*

    scoreless! For the splash screen?
  • scorelessmusicscorelessmusic Member Posts: 565
    Yup.

"The iPad Human Interface Guidelines state that launch images should be provided for all supported orientations. The Free ABC Songs launch image is only displayed in one variant of the portrait orientation."
  • JCFordJCFord Member Posts: 785
@ scorelessmusic it is a bit confusion when apple says "all orientations" because this leads you to believe that they mean both portrait and landscape, but it really means landscape left and right OR portrait up and down.

The key in your text is when apple says the launch image (Game Salad Splash screen) only supports ONE variant of the Portrait orientation - this means the spalsh screen is set to portrait up or portrait down only! You need to set it to BOTH portrait UP AND DOWN.

Its a simple setting, when you click publish to make your game, you will see a button called "ADVANCED" click this and there you will see tick box options for the orientation, just make sure you have ticked BOTH the portrait up and down, and then you will be fine.

    Good luck

@JCFord, that's what I did for my 1st and 2nd attempt, but it didn't clear. The 3rd time round, I selected all four just to see how that would fly, but no go too. (all in the advanced setting during publishing).

Every scene, I also set it to both auto-rotate for both portrait modes.

@ scorelessmusic okay - I know its an ipad app, but run it through the iPhone viewer to see how it starts up and at least check the game rotates correctly. It will work, but I think some of the touch/buttons do not work correctly when you do this, so don't panic!

The other thing to do is ask for a ipad tester on here to check exactly whats happening to confirm if it is a rotating issue, You will have to get their details and create an ADHOC version of the app and also send them the provision cert, but your last response from Apple stated that the orientation for the start up was only working in one rotation i.e. portrait up only and NOT portrait down as well!

Also as a last resort if it is confirmed that it is working in portrait up and down, you can email back to Apple stating that your game does only work in portrait mode and does rotate up and down, and then it should get passed.

I can imagine your frustration, but you will get there in the end
    Good luck
