Sharing Rules

Hey guys and gals! I've been working on a few games that share similar rules. I was wondering if gamesalad allows you to copy rules from one project and paste it into another. I haven't really looked at the folder structure to see if these type of things are saved or whatever, but if somebody knows the answer for sure that would be awesome. Thanks

Not that I know of. However, expressions that have self attributes can be transfered, but global attributes cannot. Self attributes (ones already found when you create an actor) are always the same, where as global attributes are not. You create those game attributes. For example, you could transfer a change attribute or rule that contains a self.position.

Click and hold shift on rules you would like to copy to the other project. You can then copy and paste, or drag and drop those rules into your other project.

Not exactly what your looking for, I know, but I haven't found an easier way.

So are you saying that I would be able to copy actors and their rules would carry over, but any global attributes I would have to remake?

In my experience, you can have two GameSalad files open side by side, and you can copy/paste rules between them.

However, all references to attributes (global, self) will be erased. You would have to manually set those up again.

I'm not sure about copying the actor as a whole, but if you create a new actor in the new project, you can do as I said above.

Hi @travislkeaton A couple of things to add to what the other guys said:

You click and hold shift to select more than one behaviour/rule that you want a copy of in another game file; to get a copy across, you hold down alt then drag over to the other gamefile rules section.

As was said, global and scene attributes, as well as user-made self attributes are deleted, although default self attributes (like alpha, for instance) will copy over OK.
