Random performance slowdowns, what to do?

I'm now giving some finishing touches to my first full game that I got running pretty nicely by following the 31 optimisation tips page.

The game now works full 60fps most of the time, but it gets some very weird hiccups that are totally random, slowing it down to around 10fps. Sometimes they occure 10 seconds in the gameplay, sometimes when starting the game. Sometimes they go away by themselves in a few seconds, sometimes it takes restarting GS to make it happen (which in return helps sometimes, and sometimes not).

Is this totally random stuttering just a bug with the editor that I can count on to go away when purchasing the Pro version and viewing on iPad / iPhone? Is there a way to dedicate more memory / CPU / cores to GS to prevent the stuttering?

I'm on a 2.7GHz i7 SSD MBP, so its performance should be an issue here.

The only way to tell how it's going to perform when out there for the public to play is by creating an adhoc build, and loading it onto a device.

Pro is not going to help with performance at all. And you don't need Pro to load onto a device, you just need an Apple Developer Account to do that. Pro just gives you access to a lot more functions for monetization and having links in your game, twitter postings, etc...

    Ok, thx for the reply.

Running the game on a real device is certainly the next thing on my to-do list, I was mainly curious if the random stuttering in editor is a common bug or something that can be fixed by adjusting some GS settings I'm not aware of.

It's a common thing. I don't know why it does it, but it's not a comparable gauge to how your game will actually run once it is downloaded to a device. Lots of stuff going on with the computer when you are building a game. It's running your game, it's running the creator, and it's running any other programs, web sites, chat programs, etc... that you may have open, or background processes and such.
