What marketing do you do for your app(s)?

siwelsiwel Member, PRO Posts: 20
Hi,

I have just released a new game http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/55943/wonder-slice-now-available-from-the-app-store#latest and interested in what marketing other GameSalad users have found effective?

Furthermore I am wondering how people get their apps reviewed, did company's contact you or did you contact them? If you did contact them was there a particular method that resulted in them reviewing your app?

Many Thanks,
Lewis

You could try some free reviews sites for reviews, but their so busy. That it takes awhile if every to review your game. You can always turn to social networks for free advertising. If you have money to spend, you can set up ads on Facebook or other advertising sites. Those are just some of the ways people use for advertising.

I'm sure there are a hundred different ways to do it. Really all comes down to your budget.

    Hi @siwel

http://prmac.com are worth checking out, for free press releases.

Also as @mounted88 suggests, send out all your promo codes to the review sites; if you create a buzz that way, sometimes a magazine or newspaper - online or otherwise - will pick it up too.

    Here's some links to help:

This is a great site for showing developers how to get reviews.

Here is a list of sites that will review games. ...

    Gamezebo
    The Legit Review
    AppSpy
    CapsuleComputers
    Slide To Play
    Frisky Mongoose
    Appyzilla
    The Baking Games

    TouchGen
    AppSafari
    ipodappzone
    Wired.com
    levelsave.com

Of course there is always Facebook, Twitter and YouTube (which are a MUST) if you want people to buy your games. Be sure to set up accounts on these and other forms of social media. Also, don't forget about the forums here. Be sure to post pics, videos, and updates of your games so we can help you develop them into best-sellers instead of instant flops! ;-)

    Good luck everyone!"

It's a bit laborious to send to them all (or those relevant to your type of game/platform at least) but no pain, no gain, they say!! Best of luck.

One idea is to put together a short video promo and start a Kickstarter fundraising campaign.

Of course, the success of these can often be determined by the "rewards" you provide to donors, in addition to having a solid product or idea and a good Facebook friends list to pass the word. I've found people are more likely to spread kickstarter requests than just "hey check out this guy's game" requests.

And even though your game may be finished, and you may not looking to raise a fortune, any additional money raised can always be used to pay for paid marketing expenses, (or other associated developer costs) and limiting your total amount of funding needed may make it more likely your campaign will succeed and thereby gain even more notice by the Kickstarter community.

Even a failed campaign can raise awareness for your game and help get the word out.

So far, I've relied on FB and Twitter, but I'm going to HAVE to invest some time in learning how to make vids for Youtube and beyond... :)
