Your Computer Specs vs. Gamesalad Creator Performance?

Ok so the Gamesalad Creator has been running very clunky and laggy for me for a while and the viewer also performs poorly. The gameplay stutters, audio lags, and it barely recognizes touches. Now I know ad-hoc testing is the best and that's what I do with every app I develop, but it was nice when I could use the Viewer to check on implementations throughout development. My apps run perfectly fine on ad-hoc and after publishing, but the viewer is barely efficient for me. More importantly though is the Creator itself. Most of the time it doesn't recognize me dragging objects the first time. I usually have to attempt dragging something multiple times before it recognizes that I'm placing an actor in the scene, rules and etc.

So basically I just want to know how Gamesalad performs with you all compared to you computer specs. I know a couple of users that have experienced these problems also, but they've advised me that their issues were linked specific versions of the software. I know my system meets the min requirements but maybe it isn't up to par somehow for this software? I don't have major performance problems with any other software that I use. I like Gamesalad and I'm not here to bash it at all, but I'm just curious. This isn't about the recent version release of Gamesalad, or any specific version because I've been experience lag for about a year or so.....

My computer specs:
Apple Macbook Pro (2009)
8GB Ram 1067 Mhz DDR3
Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
2.26 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
Using trackpad & wireless mouse

I use a MacBook 2006 and it worked fine for me till the update.

It could also depend on what other programs you have running while using the creator

Do you have the Android SDK installed? If so, under your home folder, rename the SDK folder, you'll notice a massive improvement! If you publish to Android, you need to rename the folder back to SDK, then publish and can the rename again

That sounds so bizarre! But hey, if it works I'll try it :) So creator is constantly trying to communicate with the Android SDK or something?

In my case (on a 2009 macbook) creator works fine for small projects but starts slowing down a lot as a game gets bigger. Also using HD images in project slows it down so I work with smaller images and replace them before publishing.

@HoneyTribeStudios Yeh not sure whats going on with it but seriously makes such a big difference! With it left named as SDK my preview is unplayable. Unresponsive, huge lag, stuttering and music choppy as hell. Rename the folder and Boom ... As one would expect :)

Let me know if it helps

    quad core i7 @ 2.2Ghz
    16gb ram
    2x ssd

creator has very poor performance for me.
(While photoshop, blender and other high end apps and 3d games all run flawlessly)

@beefy_clyro I don't believe it... Creator Preview now works just like it used to (and is supposed to) :) No audio stutter, no dodgy frame rate, but just the game how it's supposed to play. And I'm testing on a project with HD images too. How did you ever think to rename the Android SDK folder?

@CodeWizard - This thread should be a sticky or something. Having a smoothly working creator preview is soooo nice, having been used to a painfully stuttering one for a while now. And all it took to fix was changing the name of the Android SDK folder.

    2007 MacBook Pro running Lion
2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    4 GB of Ram

No lag issues what so ever... Is everyone else working on massive games or something? I've never experienced a hitch and I have over 60 images, 30 actors, 60 scenes, and 20 tables...

@beefy_clyro why? wha? when? how? WOW! I renamed the folder like you said and yeap.....massive improvement! I feel like I just received a +50% efficiency power-up! I was dealing with all of those problems I stated on small and big projects, but now the creator and viewer both work smoothly.

    Thank you!! =D>

@HoneyTribeStudios Awesome news, glad to hear it :) I too suffered with this for ages and was continually blaming it on a software update to GS and was getting no where in resolution!
Tried all the usual things like reinstalling GS, fixing HD permissions and still no improvement. I then created a new user account and guess what? It worked flawlessly again. I mentioned this to LaurenSalad at the time and she got me to write it up as a workaround in those Salad Solutions things they were doing.
Over time I saw lots of threads popping up about suddenly rubbish performance and upon a little digging with another GS member, his was a bit easier ... yesterday it was working fine, today crap ... what changed? He installed the Android SDK :)

Yep @tenrdrmr pointed out the android sdk issue a while ago.

This issue is noted. Having an engineer take a look because it doesn't make too much sense to me. :D

    @FryingBaconStudios @CodeWizard You can see my initial post on my 1st workaround below, it also shows the original user (@ellfire) who pinned it down to the Android SDK. This was a year ago now and at that time, i'd been complaining about it for a couple of months;

I've been renaming this file for awhile now noticed this problem when I first installed Android SDK someone else mentioned the exact file that is causing this think its the one GS points to in preference anyway a note you only have to rename the file back to SDK when your signing your app.
