Apple changed the ios portal- a question about ad hoc...

gamesfuagamesfua Member Posts: 723
Hey all. I wanted to publish my game but Apple has apparently changed the ios portal. Usually I take my distribution profile and change it from ad hoc to store, but that option is now gone. So I'm left with this profile that I believe is still an ad hoc.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Hey !
    Thats a good question haha.
    You can always make a new profile to make sure, but I don't have an answer on telling if it is ad-hoc or not.

    Hi @anatomyofdreams,

    I deleted the ad hoc and made a new profile for the store with the same app ID.

    Hope this helps!

    It’s not a bug – it’s an undocumented feature

    Well I had the same problem. It was set to AdHoc, I published and all worked fine :) Maybe the options have gone and it auto detects now if it is an AdHoc or not.

    Thanks @brendanzh926 and @fal01!
    @guavegames i think you're right. If you look at the distribution profiles it doesn't say whether your profile is ad hoc or store. Odd right? It just says distribution. I wonder if it no longer matters?
    Thanks btw!
    I had just made another profile, as many of you suggested. But i'm still curious about all of this. ie if apple no longer cares if its ad hoc. Etc.
    Thanks!

    Yeah it looks like there is now no distinction between ad hoc and store apps.

    Better like that.

    But just to make sure, @GuaveGames - are you saying you had a profile that was set to ad hoc in the old system. And you have now uploaded to the app store since the update to Apple's dev site? And it was accepted ok?

    @honeytribestudios yeah i'd like to see the gutsy person to try the experiment haha. Try and update using an old ad hoc profile. I'm really curious about this. Oddly enough i skimmed the new ios dev manual and it didn't appear to mention anything about this topic.

    @HoneyTribeStudios

    Yeah! It was set to AdHoc since I was testing my game. Then the portal changed and I was like "OOOKAY", I simply tried and downloaded the profile again and it worked without any issues. But I have no idea how it works :D

    @honeytribestudios or anyone else
    stupid question- I get confused with the ios dev end of this process. A new distribution profile will not cause errors as far as my game center and achievements are concerned right? As long as the app id is the same, and that app ids bubdle id is the same. Correct? I believe this to be true because i made a test ad hoc and game center etc. seemed to be working fine.

    When you make a new app it's just the bundle ID you need to select. So yeah, that sounds about right to me.

    I just wonder about now doing beta builds, before you made an ad hoc, assigned the devices and you were good to go. If I had to add a device later I just edited the profile. The edit button has seemed to disappear and now I have to re make the profile every time I need to add a new tester. Has anyone else run into this issue?
  • gamesfuagamesfua Member Posts: 723
    @shebhnt wow that really blows! I know i definitely saw an edit button there- but i didn't test to see if you could add new users. Did you go through the normal process of adding a user under devices and then click edit on your ad hoc distribution profile? If that isn't working then i have no idea what apple is doing? Either we're all missing something or apple has managed to make this process more difficult.

    There is an edit button and a list of devices same as there used to be.

    Click on the provisioning profile and the delete, edit and download buttons will appear.

    Ok, it is now working for me, I swear that the first day that they changed it and I went to add a new tester the edit button wasn't there.

    I liked the old view better this one is confusing to find stuff. As to apps and provisioning everything revolves around the app ID so as long as your profile is linked to the App ID you setup your GameCenter and IAP you're good.

    So looks like my assumption was wrong. There is still a distinction between ad hoc profiles and store profiles.

    You used to be able to switch them back and forth but that is no longer the case (as far as I can see).

    Now we do need a separate profile when uploading to the store.

    So I won't be trying to upload an app to the store using my old ad hoc profile!
