What actually happens when I choose overscan

I have watched the videos and read the tutorials, but I'm still a little foggy.

I have an ipad game and I check the screen size and if it is an iPhone 5 size, I change the size and location of the actors. I dont want a top or bottom black bar.

The game looks and works fine on both devices but I am just curios as to what is actually happening. It appears that the camera size is changing. The center of the screen remains the same at 384 and 512.

Does the camera size change? If so what is the new size? Or is it something more magical.

To the best of my knowledge, the overscan zooms in to fill the entire screen. To prevent the black bars from happening. If you want to use overscan make sure all your buttons are still in view when overscan is on. Hope this helps some. I'm sure more people can add to this.
