Question about Pro Version & URLs

edited November -1 in Working with GS (Mac)
With GS Pro, could I create a link to an external site that will play a QT movie file and once the file is done playing and/or when the user hits "done" on the player, have it return to the application? Example - something like the YouTube app.

I have a friend that is asking me if I can build an app for him and would fund the Pro upgrade but I'd like to know if I can do it before I spend the money.

Thanks!
Chris

Shouldn't have to be the case. GameSalad will hopefully allow playing video files in the near future. It's supposedly so simple to implement, Torque 2D recently added it as two lines in TorqueScript. Interestingly, the game continues in the background, so it works well to play a video in the foreground while your game continues to load or get set up.

But, I'll take whatever GameSalad can give me. I'd love to be able to implement cutscenes and intros.

Thanks guys. Gendai has done a great job so far and I think they could get a good number of people to upgrade to Pro if this were supported... hint - hint

Ohh no, please don't make iad's and apple gaming centre pro only.

@TSB- Nah, I agree. They need to sweeten the deal. And so everyone knows, I don't have pro.

Sound like an good idea. I was a bit surprised that they made the Express export to iPad.

Ouch. I'm okay with paying the $2000 Pro license once. But it's the annual subscription that has stopped me. Unity3D for iPhone Pro is only $1500 - one time. It offers all the same features and more - but requires coding skills and is not as (drag&drop) easy to use as GameSalad. I believe that keeping these important features in the Pro version only will probably just hurt GameSalad.

How hard from a DEV/coding standpoint would a la cart be? So if I want to have links and game center, but don't care about twitter or iads I could just buy what I want. Would it be hard for Gendai to keep track of choices and unlocked purchased upgrade features? In other words does it have to be all or nothing?

...Especially since GameSalad is a behavior-oriented framework. Maybe it's time to start selling specific behaviors. There can be an iad bundle that you buy with a bunch of new behaviors and a game center bundle with different behaviors. Even more cool... publish an API so we can write our own behaviors in xcode :)

These are features that help sell apps! I don't mind not having them, but I sure will use them if available! For that reason, I think it's a fair price to pay (however, $2000 yearly is quite hefty!). I can't afford a pro acount but as soon as I can, I have no problem fronting the money!

We are also seeking some sort of iAd authoring platform - with the war between Adobe and Apple heating up, the solution is not likely to come from Adobe. With pure XCode the only other solution Apple offers, there is a real opportunity for something like a GameSalad SDK that offers specific behaviors geared toward the needs of iAd creators.

$199 - $299 maximum really. Especially at the moment, with the fact that it is still in beta an you only get 2 more features.

They could maybe just have a $250 version and non of any others.

Breaking even for a majority of developers is going to be challenging at $1999/year, and a custom load screen that the customer notices post sale isn't going to really help you make an extra $1800 to justify the cost.

The competition is beginning to heat up, in a few months GS pro is going to look way over priced ;)

It would be really nice if GameSalad had some networking functionality, and not just online game play, but the ability to pull in XML data/images/etc and do something with it. Secondarily, it would be nice to obtain access to some of the basic GUI elements. Something as simple as a keyboard input is a monumental task.
