I create this thread to post updates on my game that will(probably) hit the appstore.

Here is the first one.
This Icon is designed @jordeyy. He is really good of what he is doing, he works fast and is a nice guy(check out his thread http://forums.gamesalad.com/discussion/56233/2d-illustrative-artist-available-to-hire#latest if you need a artist:)

Zombies have started to attack John´s village, but they should know better...
John got guns and he´s not an old man you should play with

This character is made by me (but the design(how he should look) is made by @jordeyy)

Leave a comment of what you think:) What could be done better? and so on...

Well you can tell it's inspired by the icon, but there is a disconnect in the art style from one to the other. I'd be more consistant in style and make this character look more like the icon.

@jamie_c @Fajlajp I agree with jamie_c keep the artwork consistent but the icon looks awesome!

Thanks for the tips. The artwork will keep to be consistent i future(the more cartonnish style) @Utveckla_Games & @jamie_c

@Fajlajp The icon could be improved. keep in mind that details are barely seen when the icon is scaled down to its correct size. You wont be able to make out the old man's hands, ears, gradient on the teeth, heck you wont see his eyes let alone the zombie hands protruding in from the corners.

Try zooming out on your browser until the icon for your name (to the left of "Fajlajp") is about the size of an icon on your iphone. See how details are hard to make out?

I never understand why people post such huge images of their icon designs. Yes, it looks better larger but here's what the iPhone icon will actually look like:

Great Icon but @tatiang is right you will never see the detail in the Icon.

This may sound bad, but I always complete the game and then take the same art work and use it to build the icon.

The face is beautifully drawn, but the rest of the character seems patched on. Look at the hand an the body. A completely different style. No variation on the lines like the face. An the shotgun (?) looks like a high-tech broom. The color are ok. Maybe change the border to something with a bit more contrast to the sky?
And I would move the left zombie hand a bit down (1/3) so it doesn't overlap the shotgun.

What about the in-game character? Not so much respond on him... :(

personally I feel there is no real connection between the icon and ingame character - its two totally different styles

To add to this your icon should be a reflection of the in game characters. You don't want your icon looking like one style art and your game characters being a completely different style of art. That's misleading towards the players.

I really love that all the people have reflected over the icon and in-game character but I just want to say my opinion of why the game icon even exist.

The game icon is not there to show how the game looks. It´s there to show the felling of the game. How the in-game look will you find in the screenshot. So you don´t really need to have the same art style on the icon and in-game. I just want my icon "to say what the game is about" And I get the felling that it says. Old man with gun killing zombies, fun. Does anybody agree with me?
Here is one example of what I´m talking about.

    Crime City

But the icon of Crime City is works more than yours because you still get the same feel, your icon and the character you posted don't have the same feel at all.

Not to sound mean but you have a nicely drawn character in your icon that looks like someone who has personality and then you show a character that is supper flat and undetailed and really doesn't look like the icon at all.

    Agreed.

The icon set an expectation that the in game character doesn't live up to. Can't you just make the in game character look more like the icon guy? I mean, you designed the icon character, why not just take the time to draw him again in a profile view. This will not only help manage expectations from the icon but improve the overall quality of your game. #winwin

The icon character has a personality. The in game character is a collection of polygons.

Whats with the 2 creepy hands on the edge of the icon? It completely ruins the user's attention from the actual icon to the hands, and the 2 hands are redundant. If that is your game style then make the man's actual hands the 2 creepy hands you have made at the edge.
  • FajlajpFajlajp Member Posts: 666
Okey, thanks. I will take all of your tips and make a better game:)

the games a zombie killing game , so the main man is the man killing them and the hands are the zombies ,

why would he make the mans hands zombie hands when hes the one killing the zombies ? , hes not a a zombie his self
