Holes: Any idea to apply partial invisibility to actors or backgrounds?

Puff! An example would be a kind of worm with serpent movements and eating a big Apple. Until here well, but what happen with the background parallax or the irregularity of the form of the apple?
In many situations it is not possible to be adapted to squares. Other game engines have different ways to deal with holes, like image mask, or a kind of actor that can apply invisibility to the objects in back.
I have been seeing the sample "Player - Hole Test", but in my case it does not solve my problem.
My actual problem is the parallax behind the hole. Any ideas??

Are you saying you want the little worm guy to be visible on top of just the black part? And then disappear when he goes thru the hole?
Make the far side of the hole obscure the worm guy, and make the worm guy in front of the black? Then it'll look as though he went into the hole and is inside somewhere...

My problem is more near than "ORBZ" hole sample, but the problem is the background, on where I have a parallax, not a solid black.
