Monthly Subscription to Pro

Well I was just thinking... My Pro membership just expired and I'm pretty strapped for cash, so It's going to be a few weeks before I renew, but that's ok, I need a couple more weeks to finish up my Game anyways. I was just thinking about how It would be nice If I could purchase a PRO license in monthly payments. So a subscription, basically.

Obviously GameSalad would be weary of people who would purchase only a month subscription and then publish their title, and then not pay again, so...

How about an option to buy a year of GS for 30.00 a month and an early termination fee of the remainder of the balance? I.E. your card will automatically be charged 30.00 a month, but If you cancel your auto charge, you get billed for the remainder of the contract?

Simple, easy, and makes GS Pro affordable for everyone. ;)

Yes! I was thinking the same exact thing. I would instantly sign up. I plan on doing the yearly one, but I think the monthly one will make a lot of more people join and stay.

GameSalad is cool, so once you become a member, I'm sure you will stay.

    Please add this!!!! :)

    I love this idea :)

It should at least be 4 months or so, Like a 1/4 of a year... So people cant just buy pro when they need it

How about monthly but your app stops working if you stop paying? Would that be too mean? Just tossing out a crazy idea. :D

HAHA! It's kind of mean but hey! it's business.

I think @LeonardDeveloper said it best, it should be "X" amount of months. 3 - 4 months at a time.

I'm just trying to figure out how in the world that would work without upsetting all your users?

You make the quarterly and/or monthly price cost more than the yearly over 12 months. Those who already paid for the year are getting a discount.

    $299/yr = $299/12mo

    $80/3mo = $320/12mo

    $30/mo = $360/12mo

Your classic "Buy the whole year and save $$$" pitch! :D

I think if one is serious about game development $299 a year is a steal. Having a business means having a plan. Once you buy your pro, if you start putting $7 a week aside you'll have your next years payment two months before it expires. Just $7 dollars a week. If one is serious they will find the drive and discipline to do it.

Imagine that, but with Studica pricing!

    $140/yr= $140/12mo

    $30/3mo= $160/12mo

    $10/mo= $199/12mo

Same classic "Buy the whole year and save $$$$$$$" pitch! ;)

I don't think it would be a good idea. Whats to stop someone from subbing for 1 month after they have made a few games with the free version, publish, and then cancel and do it again in a few months? You proposed a kill switch in the apps - this is obviously a very bad idea and would destroy the gamesalad brand (and all apps made with gamesalad) if suddenly apps that people paid for stopped working.

If you are set on offering different plans I would suggest this:

    3 Months $125 ($500 for a year)
    6 Months $200 ($400 for a year)
    12 Months $300 ($300 for a year - duh)

Would negate any loss from the people who sub just to publish a bunch, and then cancel

I agree with @FryingBaconStudios, $299 is reasonable and not hard to save for. And being that you can work on a project for as long as you like with the free version before you ever pay for the pro, why over-complicate things.

I have to agree that this goes against their business plan and wouldn't work. Simply because people would purchase for a short time only.

Well i've been keenly looking at some other business models too..
GS is free to use.. and free to learn and troll around.
Pro users are sincere users, and are not in here just for there own game.
Probably GS could add a pay per game model..

Like 99$ (with all iOS goodies) and you'll get to publish one game. 49 $ to update every time.
And 199$ (with porting to all platforms) and you get to publish one game.
    And 299$ full year license.

It removes the entry barrier for newbies to get a taste of the GS world.

All those who are worried about the kill switch idea - don't worry I'm pretty certain @CodeWizard was joking ;) That really would be mean!

I don't think GS is going to change the pricing model. Basically as a pro you get monetization features like IAP and ads and the URL behavior what exactly do you think you're missing out on? Yes the nightly builds are a new addition as a pro exclusive thing but look as I said it's $7 dollars a week to save. If you want to be a pro and get the stuff then get some skin in the game. This is what is required to be in a business. I know some of you are teens so do what my kids did get a job or make a deal to do yard work with your parents for cash and save. As to the adults learn to save it'll be good for your life overall to handle money properly. If you have dreams of making this into a business these are all good lessons to help you in the quest.

@FryingBaconStudios Sound advice and I agree with you about 300.00 not being a big deal if you're serious about game dev, which Is why I was a pro user and will be again very soon when I finally finish up the game. I'm also a licensed plumber and a waiter and have 3 kids. Sometimes it's just hard to come up with 300.00 all at once. I will definitely click that go pro button again when I'm ready to publish. That being said-Having options rocks! ;) I spend on average about 6 hours a day working on games, and more on my days off. We all dream of being able to support ourselves from our creations and many are doing it.

It seems to me that a hell of a lot of people would go pro If they could make payments. IMHO ;)
