Key continuous down fire vs. key up fire?

I am currently thinking about changing the way I handle the key down form my game. Currently, each time a player presses down a key and release -- it fires... so the faster you press and release, the faster it shoots.

What I am wondering if there are any benefits of handling key down continuously like what is used in the basic shooter example. Whats better for the iphone?

Heh - I just played the latest version of Starfire, and found my hand was getting tired hitting the space key!

Now imagine if that was an iphone you were constantly tapping!

A lot of early mobile phone shooters has at least an option to have auto-fire on. Perhaps you could consider that? My game Bugz uses it, but it is again a different kettle of fish.

Another of my games has an ammo counter and less enemies than yours does (trying to save on memory) - so you don't need to constantly press fire. There's a few other tricks it has up its sleeve too, but you'll hopefully all see that soon.

If I can stop it crashing ;)

Indeed, in Starfire you CONSTANTLY need to be shooting, for fear a fast moving enemy or an enemy missile might hit you. There's really no pause for breath, but that's not meant as a criticism, just an observation ;)

    Hope that helps mate,

    Cheers,
