Color-depth smaller in GS?

I have a lot of artworks in GS, which have color gradients. In the viewer or ps, the gardients are looking good. But when I put them into GS, The gardients look like, they have much less colors. All artworks are png.
Is there a trick to get them intomGS with the same quality than the originals?

I've been noticing this as well with gradients. But only the past few releases. I know pngs become uncompressed once they hit the device, but all settings I've tried so far make no difference. @CodeWizard any insight ?

My thought was, that it was only in the past few releases, too. But I didn't know since when.
It looks a bit confusing. I use almost the same loading picture, one in the game and one added in the GS-Publishing tool. The one added in the Publishing tool for startup looks very good and without less colors. Then the game switches to the one in the game with the wrong gardient...

Have you done a ad hoc and see how they look on a device? The previewer is just that a preview. Do a ad hoc and see if they look different than your originals.

Yes, I'm not talking about the preview or the viewer. This is on the device.

You need at least one transparent pixel on gradient png, to get full color depth.

@natzuur sorry I was actually talking to @marcocol since he was the one asking the question.

Yeah by default Gamesalad imports Pngs as 8bit Pngs which have a limited colour range, whereas introducing transparency or semi-transparency, even just in one pixel, will force GS to import the image as a 24bit Png with all the required colour depth.

Yes. I am trying it on the device, not in the viewer.

Ok, I'll try this with one px of transparency.

Well @mounted88 I'm experiencing the same thing so I thought i'd chime in... always better to have multiple accounts of an issue. I'll try the transparency. Thnx boom and daniel

@natzuur I understand that and wasn't trying to be rude, honestly I didn't see your first post.

Made at least one px transparent will use the png with 24 bit. It's strange and a bit funny, but it works!

It is odd, it's not a design feature of GS as such, more an oversight I would think. I'm sure eventually they'll have an option for colour depth when importing.

    Is there no other way?
In my point program I can set transparency only with 256 colors!? (Paint Shop Pro XII)?!
