The more I look in to all this the more I'm tempted to switch from xbox back to Playstation. I guess I'll wait and see what happens over the next year before diving in.
Related story: I've always had a PS3, but I basically just used it as a bluray player and used the 360 for games. Yesterday I decided to trade in the PS3 as we never use it now that we've got a separate bluray player. The PS3 has always just worked whenever I need it, and I tested it all out before leaving for the game store, it worked fine. I got to the game store, the guy there started to test it, it turned on fine and he started playing fallout new Vegas on it, no problems. Then he went to turn the console off and the on/off button stopped working, right there and then, so it wouldn't turn off. He refused to accept it as a trade in.
What are the chances of it dying right there in the store? If that button only ever worked one more time in it's life it would have turned off and he would have been happy to accept it Now I'm stuck with a huge PS3 sized door stop.
I have an option on an XBox360. Prices are drrrrropping! I used to have a PS3 but sold it because of cough! Crisis cough! I think I would go for a PS4 just for the sake of not liking MS. In the end I think it's pretty much the same when it comes to gameplay.
Can't wait to get back to Socom and third person shooters battle field is cool but the hit detection sucks and you constantly get stuck on stupid little obstacles in the environment. I hate first person but when Sony screwed up with the PS3 I switched to Xbox and now I'm switching back. The one thing I don't like about Xbox is the private chat. When I played Socom with open mike I made lots of friends some of which I still game with. It's nearly impossible to pull together strategies in BF3 because everyone is in their own chat groups. I enjoy multiplayer gaming for the fun of mixing with other people and connecting with them, the private chat kills all that.
Hey @tshirtbooth, great to see you're still checking in at the GS forums
I'm leaning the same way as you right now Darren - I've been an xbox fan since the day the 360 launched, but Sony is slowly winning me over, not that I thought I'd ever be saying that a while a go.
I'm going with Playstation 4...Microsoft got me excited with their 'Games with Gold' promotion when they made it sounds as though they were giving away AAA games like Sony was doing. Turns out the two games they mentioned (Halo 3 and Assasins Creed 2) are the highlight of the promotion, with everything else being arcade games.
Then with recent support/ my growing dislike for Microsoft...I'll be switching from 360 to PS4
Here's something to think about - if you're looking for games with better multiplayer capabilities and a better selection of network-based features, Xbox is going to be your better bet. Sure, Sony's got the box with the higher-end hardware, but it's all about application. Microsoft's been working with XBOX LIVE for 2 generations now and they have the most stable network back-end for game applications. Additionally, they also have a lot more technological and financial capital to work with - to smooth over any mistakes or open new doors (i.e. NFL exclusive tie-ins, etc.).
Personally, I'm a PC Gamer to the core and I'll play on that over any console, but if I needed to make the choice, I'd go XBox. Being in the industry and seeing how games get made, I much prefer the decisions that XBox makes over Sony any day (unknown to many, Sony's got a historical arrogance problem and they treat their developers accordingly; Microsoft is much easier to deal with and you get more games through on their platform - hence the multitude of 360 titles).

Yeah going from free Fable 3 with expectations of Halo 3, Assassin's Creed 2 and then to the likes of an Xbox arcade tower defense game is pretty weak sauce. They should have throttled it a little more. I don't mind some Indie and Arcade titles, but they just introduced this, they have a huge line up and don't exactly need to milk it. I have not been on my PS3 as much as on my Xbox 360 lately thanks to Fry and our Battlefield squad excursions (and now the Ouya). I got more out of the PSN BEFORE it went to PS+ thus far with better games. But a free game is a free game. The stinky part is, how MS pulls up the adds on the Xbox browser. I had to cycle though it 10+ times before the Defense Grid/free with Gold option pulled up and it still did not link the the current free title. I had to go through the alphabetical listing. Remember the free movie this weekend? It never showed up as a free option at all. I'm not the only one that experienced this issue. Not that the movie was worth a baby's loaded diaper, but it's the principal (I wish it was the Tom Berenger, The Principal).
@tshirtbooth, yeah to be honest, I am kinda curious how this is going to play out. Tech is tech, I like that.
