New Control Scheme For Galastar

I watched a video last night from Penny Arcade called Extra Credits, on making games on touch based mobile devices. And they were talking about how you shouldn't have to use both hands on a game, or replicate console/computer controls (D-pads, Buttons, Arrow keys, etc) And Galastar currently has that. So I want to scrap that and make it so you use one finger. Lemme give you a few screenies (screenshots)

What I have:

My thoughts:

What I'm thinking is of making it so that I have it so when your finger is on the ship, it'll start to shoot, and you can also move it left and right as well. It will ONLY shoot while your finger is on it though. I want to hear YOUR ideas, though. Try to keep it to just one finger motions, and if possible, don't put in automatic shooting. I find making it so that you don't have to shoot and your ship does it automatically destroys half the fun of a shoot 'em up. And try to add a few buttons as you can.

OH, and FYI, I will be moving that health and energy bar (I'm not gonna explain the energy bar in this Discussion) to the side so it's not in the way of the ship.

Here's the video I watched in case any of you are interested:

I think it depends on the type of game. A more casual game, for consumers who don't play a lot should be easy to use and preferably only require one hand.

On the other hand (pun intended), I think hard core games are okay (if not better) when both hands are involved, as it allows for more fluidity.

Hmmmm, I do kind of want it to be a hardcore kind of game, although that doesn't seem to be the direction it's heading. You can see what it is so far on one of my Youtube channels: http://youtube.com/adsgames1/ and look at the Galastar Sneak Peeks

@ADSentertainment You could always make the two modes, and let the players decide for themselves which control they want.

I'm actually doing that for one of my games, and it's working out pretty well

I do have plans on making options for different types of control schemes, so I could definitely do that.
