App rejected - help

My app has just been rejected by Apple. This is the reason they gave:

We found that your app only provides a very limited set of features. While we value simplicity, we consider simplicity to be uncomplicated - not limited in features and functionality.

We understand that there are no hard and fast rules to define useful or entertaining, but Apple and Apple customers expect apps to provide a really great user experience. Apps should provide valuable utility or entertainment, draw people in by offering compelling capabilities or content, or enable people to do something they couldn't do before or in a way they couldn't do it before.

We encourage you to review your app concept and evaluate whether you can incorporate additional content and features to be in compliance with the Guidelines.

Can anyone suggest what I can do so I can resubmit it successfully?

Maybe start with telling us what your app/game is? Provide pictures and preferably a video of it in action, we could therefore see and offer advice

OK how do I do that?

Tell what your apps purpose here. Make some screenshots. There is an attach button when you make a post which is the easiest way to post images on the forums. So I would recommend doing it that way.

My app is basically an animal alphabet book for pre-school children. Each screen shows the animal and states the name of the letter, it's sound and the noise that the animal makes. It's all phonetically correct as I was a teacher.

I can't see an attach button but maybe that's because I'm not a pro member?

Try uploading to a image host [e.g. imagebam.com] and post the BB code..

I think its the BB code anyways..

I actually heard from a friend recently that his app got rejected because there were too many similar games! Is Apple finally screening for quality? I guess it makes sense with the App Store so flooded with almost a billion apps.

Apple started stricter enforcement on clones, reskins and quality back in August of last year. They have been better about catching fake apps and those cashing in on unauthorized use of brand names too.

As much as it would hurt to see your app rejected, this is probably better for all of us in the long run. Cheap clones, fake apps etc only hurt the reputation of the store and clutter up the marketplace making it harder to get noticed.

By the way @auntieginzy I am not suggesting that your app is a fake or clone etc. Just discussing the changes in Apple's approach to quality control. Your app sounds interesting and useful, hopefully you can make some changes/add some content and get it approved! :)

Is there an existing list or guideline out there than we can see regarding how Apple screens apps? It's going to be frustrating for developers who've finally finished their games and submitted them for review, only to find it rejected for being similar to an existing game or being too plain an app. Especially if you've already shelled out money on Art/Services and marketing -- not to mention consuming months out of their Developer License and even GS Pro.

@auntieginzy if I were you I'd add just a bit more features into the game and see if that one would be accepted. It would be a waste to scrap everything you have right now.

I wonder what will happen if they do this in iTunes Store too. "You song is not original enough." Hm...

Just you wait till apple tells Sony animation they can't sell thier movies on iTunes cause its similar to the works of Pixar. Then I move to google play.

Keep working at your app, look at it has a chance to make it even better, just don't get discouraged. All the best.

@jonmulcahy Thanks a ton for that! I've never read this before (shame), and I must say this is brutally honest and should shy away the not-so-serious developers.

@auntieginzy I suspect the reviewer you got for your app rejected it and was referring to the 2nd bullet as seen here. Add a couple more features and submit it again :) if you haven't done so already, download some children's apps that seem similar to yours and see how they did it -- then give your features different twists to set your app apart from theirs. Best of luck!

Thanks a lot. Will keep trying and if it still is rejected will go down the route of putting it just on my ipad for my grandson. But I am disappointed as it took me ages :-(

you could always submit an appeal. explain why you think your app is important to the learning process, how it is different from what is out there and all the features you can do in it.

Well, what I did was just re submit and they accepted it! Strange
