Best screen size for a game for iPad, iPhone 4&4s and iPhone 5

What's the best size of the scene to work with in Gamesalad when I shall create a game for iPad, iPhone 4&4s and iPhone 5, without doing to much customizing, best look and have retina graphics where it's possible?

Thanks!

We always start with iPad and also found with Little Viking because i was manipulating the camera for the universal build that turning off retina gave better results.

If you go with the default GS overscan (only option unless you do separate builds because apple have banned letterbox i think) you will lose parts of your scene for iPhone 4 and more for iPhone 5 so best do some tests.

If you dont want to lose part of the scene then you will need to move actors around but we found thats not perfect (if you have a lot of platform actors lined up for e.g.).

Last i heard GS was working on a better solution.

    Thanks, @uptimistik !

Another question, to get retina on the new ipad, d the image need to be 2x the size or 4x the size as it is on the scene?

If Your actor is 32x32 pixels, the retina picture have to be 64x64 pixels.
Before publishing your project, UNCHECK the resolution independence, that way, your game will look good on retina and non retina iPhone or iPad. (And of course, will be perfectly retina on retina devices)

    Hope that helps

    A last question.

Wouldn't the graphics use a lot more memory than necessary on the iPhones if I create it as a universal build? Since the graphics then are bigger than necessary.

Is the best way to create separate apps for iPad and iPhone, to get the best performance on the iPhone?
