Splash screen cutting out devices music player

Hi,

Is it possible to prevent your app from stopping any music the user might be listening too when your app loads please? I mean music that they might be listening to in the default iPhone music player or Spotify.

Each time my game loads fully and shows the splash screen it pauses any music I'm listening to outside of the game.

I tried Googling for a solution but weren't finding any results.

I might quickly look at some GameSalad games on the App Store to see if they all do the same.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

I checked the App Store by searching for "GameSalad" and all games that had a custom splash screen stopped my music, but the ones that had a GameSalad splash screen didn't.

Please say there's a work around that doesn't involve using a GameSalad splash screen! :)

Do I have to create a scene specifically for this and find a way to disable the one that's used when you upload a picture via the online app generator/builder?

I turned off all preloading of actors, removed the splash screen from the online build option and created my own simple splash screen scene in GameSalad but unfortunately any music playing on the device is still stopped.

Also when I do this I'm seeing black screen for a few seconds before my splash screen scene is loaded which is worse.

Has anyone got an app where the splash screen doesn't stop music that's being played in external app please? So that I can at least see that it is indeed possible to do so.

This would be a software issue on gamesalads end. you can control that. Send in a bug report.

Thanks for replying. I will send a bug report now

All my games allow you to do this. What happens is, the music on the device continues playing, but the game music also plays.

By allowing the user to set the game music volume to 0, they can hear their own music just fine while playing your game.

This suggests a recent change caused this 'bug', though in fairness, it was kind of a bug to begin with!

    Hope that helps!

Thanks @quantumsheep. When I was filling in the bug report form I noticed I was using 10.3 Beta. Are you saying that it's a bug that's been introduced recently? If I were to use an old version would it work fine? And would I need to do anything differently? My first install of GameSalad was the Beta version a couple of weeks back.

I can minimise my game after it's loaded to start the music up again, but that's annoying.

Have you got one of your games on the App Store that I can look at please?

interesting find. definitely need to send a bug report on it. I don't really listen to music on my phone so I had never noticed this. I'm sure it would be annoying to die hard music lovers though.

Try Air Supply - 1 bit run - you can find it here: https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/air-supply-1bit-run/id423073029?mt=8

Or, if you're short on cash, I'm pretty sure Attack of the Kraken does it too, and that's even older (but free!): https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/attack-of-the-kraken/id335511023?mt=8

These are much older than 10.3 beta, so I'm not sure when this 'correction' may have occurred. Sorry!

I'd be interested to see what the powers that be say about it though!

I'm always plugged into music on my phone so I can confirm it's annoying to die hard music fans :) I sent a bug report earlier today so hopefully it'll be looked at in a future version. I might also look at installing an older version of GameSalad next week to see if it's something that was introduced in the Beta version.

There's no immediate rush in sorting it at the moment as I'm a little way off from completing it and currently waiting for the Apple Developer site to come back on line so that I can start looking at Game Centre.

Both of your apps work as expected @quantumsheep which is promising and definitely reason for me to look at dropping down a version or two of GameSalad next week.

Can I ask how you've got the splash screen set up on these please? Are they using a static image which you upload when creating the build or are they set up as a scene?

Glad they helped, and hope you enjoy them!

The splash screen is set up as a static image uploaded when creating a build.

Hope that helps, and keep us informed as to whether you get a response from the GS guys!

    Ta!

Edit: What *would* be nice is if GS could tell if music is already playing, and set the game music volume to 0 if so - negating the need for the player to do it manually!

@KevinCross‌ Hey there! Any luck with this? I'm having the same issue. It's bugging the heck out of my testers; many of them live in Manhattan, and taking the MTA is just an awful experience if you can't play your tunes AND your game at the same time, haha... Let me know how that ticket panned out...

  • KevinCrossKevinCross London, UKMember Posts: 1,894

@Bleistern, the GameSalad team marked the ticket as a future feature (even though it's a bug) so it's not getting fixed.

@KevinCross‌ I love GS, but that's unfortunate news. ::Sigh::
