positioning of actors

Hello again
still new to this, but struggling to get my actors to appear where i want them.
i'm wanting them to spawn at set times using the timer function, but when i use spawn actor, nothing seems to happen. if i dont make them invisible then there always in the position i want them to appear, but i want them to appear when i want them, and i cant seem to make them visible again. ive also just tried having the actor off screen, then when i ask them to spawn, i want them to appear on screen at certain x,y co-ords, but they have to 'move to' rather than just appear, really stuck. any ideas. in plain easy to understand english is good, or links to other(s) game demos are good too
