Endless Runner Help Needed

Hello. I'm creating an endless runner game like subway surfers but it will be 2d instead and from a platformer angle, the only problem is I don't know how to make someone chase your main actor and catch up to you or disappear off screen when you go ahead of him. any help would be appreciated - Hunter Afia
