Do you double your image sizes for Android like you do for iPad retina display?

My first game was for the iPad, so all my images were double the size of the actor so they look good on the iPad with retina display.

I'm now adapting that game for Android--starting fresh. Do I need to use double image sizes, or with Android, can you make the image size the same size as the actor?

Thanks!

No double resolution is not necessary. Thats only for retina display iphone and iPad etc. Not for android. So yes "you make the image size the same size as the actor".

    Also don't check resolution independence.

Thank you, @mc99093! I love things that can reduce the file size.

You do need to make sure your android art is large enough for the large end of the android tablets.

A lot of android devices do have same and better resolutions than the retina display on iOS devices. So why wouldn't you double the images?

    I'm developing for 1280 x 720 screen size, so it's fine if I make my background images 1280 x 720 (and not 2560 x 1440), right?

Because retina is a special technology that crams double the amount of pixels per inch in a space. No other screen type does that. And most Android devices don't have the same clarity and detail as the retina screen. Understand the tech you're building for.

@FryingBaconStudios yea, but i wonder how it would work if you're making a game at 1280x720 and that game gets displayed on a 1920x1080 screen. Would it still be "baked in" at the 720p resolution and pixelate or would it reveal a higher quality actor because the graphics are larger than the actual 720p size.
