Evening all...
Just wanted to say how out of all the different stages we go through in planning, designing, building, testing and marketing games, the best part for me is always right at the beginning when a new idea takes off... and you believe it's a good one...I'm there this evening...
The idea has been bouncing around in my head for about a year, I've spent the past 3 or 4 days spending my spare time drawing out spider and flow diagrams to figure out if the gameplay is even do able.
I've drawn a main menu graphic about 20 times as its the bit which requires minimal thought and is really a distraction from tackling the logic problems.
It's still early days on the idea and so could be developed in a wide number of directions (it's already evolved slightly 3 times). but whether the game ends up being any good, or even gets finished.. right now is the most exciting part of development.
It's at these points that having a game design partner/team would be good to throw ideas around, my wife likes the idea but doesn't give much back creatively.
Now I need to get back to using a pen and paper and resist firing up GS creator for another night at least... ah screw it.. I'll fire it up now and just test a little bit of the gameplay idea. :-/

I totally get what you're saying about your wife too. My wife has no technical understanding of game design/logic, processes, etc. In some ways it's useful because I can get a very clear cut answer of wether or not she likes an idea, not based on technical merit but just because it is or isn't fun in her opinion - but sometimes when I'm after a more complex considered point of view she loses interest!
@BoomshackBarry - loving the sculpting analogy.
