What the hell? AdHoc Advertisement

BasGoodboyBasGoodboy Member, PRO Posts: 310
Hello all,

I'm using AdHoc publishing to test my game..

Since today, since i uploaded a new betaversion to adhoctest, under the screen pops some banners on, which i have to press X(cross) to make them dissapear, they hover above my menu items in the bottom screen and I have absolutely no idea why they are there.

Anyone some ideas on this??

Is it the GameSalad banner, the one with 4 or 5 game icons on it? If so you can't remove it until you go Pro. If you release your game to the public it will be included, unless you go Pro.

Seriously? I didn't read that anywhere and hadn't had it on my previous 10 adhocs for sure. thats a big bummer.

Indeed, and is one of the reasons why I immediately switched to Pro.

They leave me no choise, guess that's another 2months of biting the dust financially before I can release.

Hope I make some money to earn my investments back then.

I've looked through the GS website fairly extensively and seen no mention of this, nor is it mentioned anywhere on the Go Pro page. Where can I read up about this "feature"?
  • BasGoodboyBasGoodboy Member, PRO Posts: 310
Yeah.. I havent seen it anywhere too, and on the Go Pro page they don't refer to it also.. but i trust @KevinCross when he says that it's so.

Apparently, with all do respect, it's a sneaky way after publishing 10 adhocs that GS activates those buttons.

It's in the terms of service

"If you are a user of our Free Services, some Monetization Tools will be automatically implemented within your Executable Package;"

You don't earn from those adverts though (at least I'm 99% certain you don't)

Yeah, making me seriously consider my usage of GS in general. Sad really. I'd not have minded if I'd been told about it at ANY point before near-completing two games. (Buried in ToS really doesn't count in my mind.) Hasn't shown up in any of my ad hoc builds yet.

Not sure how comfortable I am charging for a game only to have it then display ads... And not worth buying Pro unless my games make enough money for it to be worth it. So kind of a vicious circle here, and I feel more than a little played by GameSalad. Sad :(

Unfortunately Apple are highly likely to reject your game if it's got ads in it and you put a buy price on it.

Well I wouldn't be putting ads in it... GameSalad would. That's my point :D So GameSalad is essentially stopping me from publishing an app unless it's free, which means zero revenue for me. So the free version of GameSalad is essentially useless, and nothing but a demo?

Guess we gotta go Pro @Armelline, but I think 300 dollars is much men.. 150dollars would be a nice price for amateurs like me. Since I already had to pay 80 euro for the Apple license.

Sadly illness has forced me out of work and going Pro simply isn't an option unless my games are successful. I figured that rather than lying around all day doing nothing while I convalesce I'd make some games. Guess I'll have to look into GameSalad alternatives or go back to ol' Xcode.

GameSalad should REALLY be more upfront about the free version being so massively crippled.

How about Corona then? Don't know the program good, but maybe they have other rules?

Or an invester.. A collegue of mine is quite enthousiastic and wants to invest $150, but he wants 30% of the profit, which can be nothing or can be much, you never know ;-)

$300 is extremely cheap for all you get access to. I can publish to Win8, Amazon, Nook, iOS and Google Play. It's just part of the cost of entry. when I first started using GS it was $2000 for pro and $500 for the basic version, there was no free version. You have to expect to pay something for software if you want to do it as a business.

They have to be able to make money so they can support the business and give you all these great tools, and putting ads in the free version is how they do it. I doubt you'll find anything out there as easy to use.
