I want to test my game using an .app file without publishing on GameSalad site

I'm a little confused. I'm still at the testing stage of my game and I don't quite want to publish it yet.
I've tried the GameSalad Viewer and its not working that well for me, so I'd like to just install my game on the device using the .app file GS Creator supposedly makes.
So....I've been reading up about this 'Publish' button. By the end of the process you get an .app file which you can then drag and drop into the XCode Organiser so that it goes on your (plugged-in) device. My only query here is, in the process of getting that file - are you putting it up on the GameSalad website for people to see and download?
I'm confused why some people choose this way of doing it if they're still testing? Let me know if I've gotten this completely and utterly wrong - I'd really appreciate it!
Thanks in advance

You do, however, need to have a Apple Developer account to be able to test an ad hoc build or the .app file on your device.
And you don't use Organizer to install it, you use iTunes. Drag it and drop it into iTunes, and then install it to the phone from there.
P.S. If you love pancakes, you should try my waffles! I serve them with fried chicken. -

Nothing wrong with a little bacon! Or a lot...

I do have an Apple Developer account and I've created a development provisioning profile for my game.
So, in conclusion - this 'Publish' button is essentially a 'package' button to make your app and there's a separate facility somewhere to upload your game to GameSalad. Is that correct? Did I get that right?
Thank you so so much for your help by the way. This would clear up a lot for me
I've now got a new problem (performance-wise) but I'm dealing with that in another post.
Thanks for you help again!
