An Idea Thread

Hi everybody,
I hope this isn't against the forum rules and if it is I apologize. I just realized I have been a little stuck in a rut with ideas of apps. I was thinking maybe we can have a thread where people post ideas they have always thought about, but never could make or child hood games they used to love or just a great game idea that you want to share. I have been thinking about animal racing games, and minigames from one of my favorite games: Mario Party and all types of utilities, but nothing has me really going.

So I was thinking if anyone has an idea like endless games like temple run and doodle jump, word games they love to play, games they invented when they were young, anything at all post it!

Thanks

Nobody is going to give you their ideas I'm afraid!

But if you're looking for inspiration, watch a movie. Or a tv show. Or read the news. Or play a game even.

Then think 'How would any of that turn into a fun game mechanic I can make?'

There's plenty of subject matter out there for games. You just have to look!

    Cheers,

    QS

Exactly, why would I give you my ideas? If you want to develop games you need to come up with your own ideas. This goes to the heart of being a game developer. If you don't have ideas maybe game developing is not for you. Anything one takes on to do requires talent. Talent means the capacity to be inspired and have a natural ability at what you do. To be successful in art endeavors like, drawing, acting, writing, film making, music, storytelling, entertaining and such require talent even more than making widgets. Even with talent rising to the top of these fields is extremely difficult. You can't lean on others for ideas you have to learn how to inspire yourself. Being creative can be real work many times. It's not always as easy as a lightbulb turning on over your head.

Come on guys! There are plenty of game ideas to go around!

@zweg24 -- Here is my game suggestion:
Use GameSalad to create a "game idea generator" game.

Use it in a contest to see who of your friends can come up with the wackiest game ideas. Put some teeth into the contest by awarding the 'winner' of the contest the exclusive rights to publish "XXXXX's Game Idea Generator" to an appstore. (Replace XXXXX with the winner's name.)

You could have inapp purchases! For example, for .99 someone could buy the deluxe idea pack. Which would put the word "deluxe" either in front or behind the game idea. (Front or behind is randomly determined, of course.) Or for 1.99 someone could purchase the bird/pig idea pack. (It would exclusively use birds and pigs in the game idea.) And for the ultimate inapp purchase (for a whopping 2.99) they could purchase the Zombie ideas generator!

Hmmm.... if that idea is too much work, you could get inspiration from some online game idea generators:

You've probably given a way a winning idea there @RThurman! I'm so pinching it without anyone knowing.

@KevinCross -- If you do nab the idea and it makes you a million dollars, all I want in return is for you to put a subliminal message in the backgroung music. The message must include the words, "Vote for RThurman". Itt'le drive the masses bonkers trying to figure out what it all means. (Something like that worked for Paul McCartney didn't it?)

@ jamie_c -- Cool! These coincidences always happen in three's. I wonder where/how the next instance will occur.

Ohhh... there is another game idea! You play as one of three zombies huddled around an android tablet. Each has a finger on his/her triangular corner of the screen. The game randomly generates three game ideas - one in each zombie section. The zombies have to look at each others' game ideas and decide which one is a clone of his/her/its game idea. The 'looser' has to leave the game and actually go implement the game idea. The 'winners' get to continue to look for more game ideas.

Hey! It's not necessarily a bad idea to post game ideas. I'd be happy to. Except I'd only post ideas I wouldn't be working on myself. Mainly because talking about the idea dissipates the energy of it.

Not trying to hide ideas, just need them to be fully formed. Keep the magic until it's done.

The impressionist movement would be a good one to study. The impressionists painted their back yards, their wives getting out of the bath and garden parties they went to.
Also flowers in a vase, light coming through a window. They didn't need ideas.

They were using domestic scenes and a new style of execution.

As an artist I find that ideas 'epiphanies' come along more often, the harder you work.

Just thoughts that meander through my addled mind of peach blossom.

Now your first challenge: Make a game based on your least favorite poem.

These are great ideas!! Thanks for the great advice @RThurman!! I figured this thread could help inspire people like it has already inspired me!

They were using domestic scenes and a new style of execution.

This is something I've been thinking about a LOT lately, as I'd read something about it by a journalist on Twitter.

He was mentioning that various games could be compared to each other and be found to be virtually the same.

The differentiator came in the form of how the games were executed.

    It's something I think about a lot!

    Agree @quantum_sheep. Has to flow and take the player along. 'Narrative' is important to me so I'm going to post my first game below. It is a text game, just answered by your responses. It's genuine! I'm late for work - here goes;

I'm late for work - no doubt. What do I tell my boss?

    (there will be a clue)

A: My little boy has a fever.
    B: I'm sorry I'm late.
C: I was trying to make my inventory slot actor spawn less as it collided with an actor of tag 'collectables' in gamesalad.
D: I was working at home all morning.

    There is a clue above.

    Ho Ho! A? B? C? D?
