Particles or animated pngs?

Hi Guys,
I know the answer to this may be "depends", but as a general rule, is it better to have an explosion for example performed using particles or animated png files (assuming I could get the same looking result with both)? Do particles typically use less or more memory/resources than small animated pictures?
Thanks,
HK

@HappyKat78 Hi HK, I don't know for sure but my educated guess is that particles take about the same processing as a relatively short series of animated png files, but certainly less file size (in fact just the one image used, the space needed for the code and values for the Particles Behaviour absolutely minuscule).
So in the main, if filesize is not absolutely critical, just use whichever gives you the best results at the time (which you've said yourself anyway...) :-)
