Can I submit screenshots which are not cropped?

I have been searching the forum to find out if Apple will accept screenshots that do not have the black bars which are in the universal letterbox binary I am going to submit. I have to keep the same aspect ratio or my game won't work or look right.

The screenshots look pretty ugly with black bars on each end of iPhone 5 and top and bottom of iPad. I will probably submit the iPhone 5 screenshots which people might expect. But I have some screenshots of the iPad from an iPad build which I made before the universal build which I could use to submit. Would Apple accept this or knock it back?

Why wouldn't they accept a screenshot with no black bars?

I think your asking if they will accept a screenshot with black bars? But I hope you know your game will be rejected if it has any black bars and or not filling the entire screen on the device. So if your game is not filling the entire device then you might want to look into resizing your game to fill the entire screen.

I believe they will accept cropped games. In publisher you can select letterbox which which uses the background to fill the unused part of the screen. I wrote my game in iPhone 4 480x320 when I published a universal build using letterbox it centres my game and uses the background colour to fill the 44 px either side on an iPhone 5 in my case the background is black so it has black bars. When you see it on a device it doesn't show as black bars it just looks like the screen is smaller. But the screenshots obviously look ugly.

This is the process described in the Cookbook and one of GS's publishing processes. I can't see why they would do that if Apple wouldn't accept it.

There is currently no other way I can build my game which doesn't require two separate binaries which means two separate submissions with separate leaderboards, achievements, etc.

I want to use a screenshot which doesn't show the black bars because it will look better on the App Store. I am sure I have read that they will but I can't find it and wanted to ask the question here before I submit it.

I think the letterbox option is more for android builds then for apple builds. You can give it a shot but I think they will reject it curse of the black bars. Good luck
