how to create a health bar, and where to source sound files?

I've been working away at a game for a few months now and its getting there, slowly.

Its a bash'em up, and the next thing I need is a health bar for our hero, but I can't seem to find how to easily create one of these, am I missing something obvious or does anyone have some brief instructions or a youtube link?

Lastly, I need some sounds - I've trawled the marketplace, but can't find what I need - wheres the best place to find these? I'm looking for machine gun, explosions, richochet bullet sounds etc - any ideas?
