how to create a muzzle flash graphic in front of gun

Hi

An issue I'm struggling with is creating a muzzle flash in front of the main characters gun, when firing.

Would you add another graphic for the muzzle flash constrained to the left or right position of the main character or change the main characters graphic to be wider and include the flash and if so how do I do this a the main character already has his width defined?

I would constrain a separate image for the flash. It makes it easier to have separate images for different parts that aren't always going to be there. Atleast I think it does.

thank you, managed to get a basic one setup now and it actually looks pretty good, onto a flame thrower next!
